This city has its significance dating back from the times of Maratha ruler Shivaji. Jejuri was one of the major hill forts in Maharashtra. This was the place when Shahji - Shivaji's father and Shivaji met each other after a long period of time. It was at Jejuri where all the strategic decisions against Mughals were taken by the Marathas. Hence, this place has gained historic significance. Significance of Jejuri Temple In this temple, Hindu gods are worshipped. Main god in this Temple is Lord Khandoba. It is also known as Khanderao, Khanderava, Malhari, Martand or Mallu Khan. Khandoba is basically an avatar or a form of Lord Shiva. Lord Khandoba is well-known amongst both Vaishnavas and Jain traditions. Khandoba is one of the most popular diety of Maharashtra. The foremost centre of Khandoba worship is Jejuri in Maharashtra and hence the place is popular. Khadoba signifies a warrior king and 'Kand' means a sword. Jejuri Temple Structure Jejuri Temple is situated on the hills and has 200 steps which devotees need to climb. However, these steps are not very difficult but are very simple steps which can be easily climbed by the devotees. While climbing these steps, you can enjoy the panoramic scenic view of the surroundings. You can also stop here to capture some beautiful moments in the camera. If the weather is clear then you can also enjoy the view of 'Saswad' and the 'Dive Ghat'. Also en-route you can view the famous 'Deep Mala' or popularly known as 'Light Stands of Stones' which are very simple but beautiful. The temple and the idols placed in the temple are beautifully carved and are all unique. Fairs in Jejuri There is an annual fair which is held in November every year. It is popularly known as Jatra. More than 40,000 devotees from Pune and nearby cities attend this Jatra or fair. One of the famous festivals celebrated here is Dusshera. On this day the competition of holding the sword till maximum time is held and it is very popular amongst the people of Jejuri.
One of the old traditional temples. Please remember : This temple opens at 2:30am and closes at 11pm. One must come early as it is very crowded till 7am in the morning. The one who loves holi must visit this place on Sunday. On the day of mahashivratri they open one special shivling, once a year. One must reach about 5am to see that otherwise it is crowded.

This is Temple of Mahadev known as "Lavthaleshwar" in Jejuri on main road. This Aarti which we use in Puja of Mahadev is written by Samarth Ramdas Swami. One poster of written is there inside the Temple. Very peaceful place.
