I didn't stay at the homestay but visited the tea estate. They gave a guided tour through the tea factory and described and demonstrated the tea making process to us. The staff are very accommodating and welcoming. You can buy high quality tea leaves from the gift shop.
Be prepared and you will enjoy to the fullest. You will spend a day or few with the family of tea workers. They are great people with geniune and enshining smile, very hospitable, living a humble life and speaking some English. To the expectations now: the accommodation is very clean yet fairly basic (but sufficient even in winter if you'll put enough clothes on), the food is very tasty yet don't expect much variety at the same meal, the people are eager to know more about you so you'll spend some time communicating with a mix of gestures and some English. Their home moonshine tastes great :) It is a community service, so that each family gets a guest once in a while. Bring your own SIM if you want to stay connected. The tip we've left made them happier. Overall, very good experience!
Go there if you want to enjoy a lovely homestay in a beautiful and serene environment. I stayed inside a family house for 2 days and it was wonderful. Everybody is nice and friendly. It's a great place to relax for a few days, you can visit the tea factory and have a walk in the many tea gardens. It's also great for the price, you pay 800rs for accomodation and 3 meals (500rs go to the family and 300 to the organization)
This is an amazing homestay. If you are at Kurseong, go to Makaibari and stay here. Lakpa and his family will treat you like their own. I had my meals with the family and they tell you stories and you just see how simple, trustworthy and nice they are. They make you feel like home. The place gives you amazing view of the tea garden and hills. The neighbours are great too, inviting me for tea and snacks. Everyone treats you like one of them.
Worst homestay of the world. No basic amenities. Very poor food, only Rs 2 /kilo rice and 1 saak(veg) which naturally grows on Himalayas. Common dirty bathroom with no commode. No arrangements for hot water,no geyser. This place doesn't have a TV or mirror even. Horrible. Don't come here.
Front Office guy need to be more polite,he just try to correct you in every thing u ask
If you love nature, its a good pkace to be. Do note that this is quite afar from kargeong Rail station(town) though frequent small cars ply from here to back during daytime Walking dist - 45 mins uphill, 30 mins downhill in a resectable pace
You will find some nice people. It is more fun to visit Makaibari in festival seasons such as Diwali, Saraswati puja, Durga puja etc. It's a good place. At the end it's in your hand to make it good and to create a good memories.
