Very difficult to find the spot of the blackbuck. From the road it's 2 plus kms of off-road and then from where we park the vehicles, it is 1.5 km of walk into the forest. But all that is totally worth it.
Its a forest its near by my village,
Mud Road Through Jayamangali Blackbuck Sanctuary, Mydanahalli, Karnataka,
This area is a part of the plains of Deccan plateau and borders Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is a 798-acre (3.23 km2) patch of grassland with Eucalyptus and Acacia auriculiformis. It has the largest contiguous population of blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) in Karnataka, apart from Ranibennur Blackbuck Sanctuary.
Nice place for offroad, animal sightseeing is pure luck..no water food available inside.. network coverage is decent...washroom available but didn't check it... carry lots of water and food and don't feed wild animals reach before sunrise
A great place for a weekend adventure, basic off-roading and very few people visit here so often its empty. Kindly do not litter or disturb the wildlife.
Good spot for a picnic too with family and friends.
Large and vacant space reserved for conservation of Black Bucks. Its a treat to watch the black bucks run around in droves. However, ever since the creation the reserve has been neglected both by the government and the local authorities. Almost no facilities for the tourist except a small cottage. The no.of black bucks has been decreasing over the years.
The villages around the reserve are not too keen to be part of the conservation efforts and the authorities have failed to get them onboard. It is suspected that the local villagers themselves encourage poaching of the rare black bucks so that the reserve is shut down. Unless the forest dept. and the government get their act together, this will be one more effort down the drain.
This experience to see such exotic creatures so close to Bangalore is one Special Blessing we all can Cherish as Bangaloreans.
This Blackbuck Reserve forest is around 120Kms, 2.5Hrs to 3Hrs of Journey from Bangalore main city on the way to Tumkur.
The place is Inhabited by Jayamangali villagers along with the Blackbucks and a few Leopards deep inside the forest area.
Best time to spot the Indian Gazelles and Black Bucks grazing is in the mornings 6 AM to 10 AM as they all hide in due to the scorching sun in the afternoons and come out again around 4 PM to 6PM.
Other places to visit close by are
Madhugiri Trek and Jayamangali Blackbuck Wine yard.
