Mahal was one of the pice hotels in Kolkata, and now it's no longer pice hotel. Now, Mahal is one of the famous bengali restaurants at college street.. I would like to state that the taste of the foods of Mahal restaurant is way better than other bengali restaurants.. every staff member of the Mahal restaurant is good. Their behavior is very good. You can go for taste. You might not like the ambiance due to the current scenario of cafes in Kolkata. I might not be able to click many pictures due to space constraints.. they make new dishes every day.. they write the menu on a whiteboard.. I would recommend that you must try fish items. All of them are good, and you must "Muri Ghanta" and "Amsattor Chatni" chicken and mutton are not that good but you can try once. Rest all are good.

Its my fav hotel in kolkata.. Since 2010 I used to come here... All the food items are just wow... Hotel owner is very good person.. Its very good. Must try Chital macher muithya, Aam katla and spcl mug dal...

An superb experience in one of the legendary pice hotels of Kolkata. I am not here to give a history lesson , in simple words the food is the biggest plus. Following were ordered along with rice : 1. Moon daal ( 4.5 / 5 ) : Superb . 2. Topse Mach fry ( 4 / 5 ) : Good , fresh fish , tasty. 3. Pabda macher bori jhol ( 3 / 5 ) : This was a big mistake because the gravy was very watery with big doses of red chilli powder. I really don't know for whom this type of dish is intended to. But the fish was fresh . 4. Aar Macher jhaal ( 5 / 5 ) : Simply top notch . The fish is huge and so so fresh. This has to be one of the legendary dishes of Kolkata. Sorshe r jhol along with a huge freh piece of fish. This is a must must try. Will go back for chingri macher rosha and mutton . Highly recommended.

Age old restaurant of Bengli cuisine variety. Authentic bengali dishes are available here. Mainly a place for lunch and dinner. The owner now is the grandson of the original fou der of this place. Near about 100 years ago this building was called PRESIDENCY BOARDING HOUSE. At a cheaper rate many people use to stay here as paying guest in a mess system. Famous bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopqdhyay and Jibnananda Das used to stay here. Now that Boarding house is closed. Only the restaurant remains in a small room of 20 accommodation. But food quality and hospitality is excellent.

I am a book lover that's why I go College Street every few days. A bookseller gives me the address of this hotel. Believe me I Love their food. Great hotel of Banedi Bangaliana food. Situated on a narrow by-lane behind college square, this is one the Bangali Hotel which stands diametrically opposite of the multicusine restaurants which are metropolising our city. Inside there is no artificial decoration but the place is quite neat and clean. As soon as you enter the room you will feel you went fifty years back in their ambience. Sitting arrangements consists of 4 tables each having 4 chairs each. Food: First thing to mention that it is not a restaurant which you visit once with your girlfriend and celebrate an evening. It is much like a daily hotel which serves plate-scrapingly delicious Bengali food. You definitely take out with your better half if she likes Bangaliana Food. Minimum 10 types of fish preparations are available and if you want to taste the best ones, go early, as within three pm fifty percent of the items are finished. Coming to the menus, to mention a few - Special dal - delicious flavoured Moog dal mixed with a different kind of vegetable. Katla korma and bhapa at Rs 85 this is really delectable and my favourite. Meat Better to avoid as meat is not their forte.To mention, that Wednesday they serve desi chicken served with potato piece. Service of their three waiters are too vigilant, informal and scenic. There is nothing wrong with their hospitality and service. I falling love their delicious food. Please go and taste a actual Bengali Food. Before going please wear a Mask

In lunch we had pure Vegetarian bengali meal that consists of Steamed Rice, Lentils, sliced potato fry , Jackfruit curry & sukto. This menu is pure love from a very old pice hotel situated in kolkata. The food was so amazing in taste that you will start licking your fingers and everything was served hot . Don't expect luxurious decor coz it's situated inside a old house . The interior will give you a glimpse of old house in kolkata back in the British era.

Nostalgic atmosphere. Great Bengali food is available here, but the price is too high. If you want some delicious food you have to spend around 250 rupees per person. But you will have a great experience.

O this is a real gem. Cheaper (vs most restaurants). Pure bangaliana. Menu items vary frequently (so they write it with a chalk on a blackboard!). No fuss. No fancy or sophisticated manner needed to eat. The dishes may not be perfectly beautiful to look at...but don't judge a book by its cover. Taste it. And you'll want to come again. Overall, would absolutely recommend. Light on pocket. Heavy on taste buds. Great for college students or family. But couples... please note that this place lacks the flashiness that the Park Street restaurants have, so if you want to show off in front of your partner better not chose this.
