Incredible experience visiting this place during our trip to Jaisalmer. You get a perspective of what our soldiers did to defend our country and continue to do each day. Few tips for first timers: 1. Try and avoid going on Sundays & public holidays as the crowds swell. 2. Go to Tanot Mata Mandir & the Border visit nearby. If you are visiting from Jaisalmer it's better to get there first and do the border trip before coming to Longewala as BSF has limited number of passes for the border visit. 3. Do take time to review the place and memorial.
The memorial's well-curated exhibits provide a comprehensive insight into the events of the battle, and the heroic efforts of the Indian Army are vividly portrayed. The serene and impeccably maintained surroundings make it a place for contemplation and paying homage to our brave defenders. This memorial stands as a proud reminder of our nation's resilience and the dedication of our armed forces. A must-visit destination to honor and remember our heroes.
Hail Major Kuldeep Chandpuri. Long lived soldiers. The place of 1971 Indo-pak war. A well managed and properly maintained war Memorial. You will see the tanks of Pakistan which they left after loosing the war. One can feel how mere 120 indian soldiers had fought with more than 2000 soldiers, 120 tanks of pak army.
A must visit place if you're in or near jaisalmer. The road to reach this place is something out of the world.. Sand dunes on both the sides and a open straight stretch of road. If you are on a roadtrip like us, you will have lots of fun riding or driving on this roads. Being there in Longewala and after hearing the heroic victory story, you feel very proud and heart filled with full patriotism. It feels so proud to see our soldiers protecting the border in scorching heat n chilly winter. Hats off to the Indian Army.
Drive to this place was the highlight for our tour to Jaisalmer. You get to see a unique view of India and gives you a true picture of how diverse our country is. Long straight with sand dunes on both sides and small tiny villages of 8-10 houses. It's a different world. The memorial is also good. A small but awesome place. You can see couple of Pakistani captured tanks, a small documentary on the 1971 war that gives you goose bumps and you can feel the history of the war.
Visitors to Note.. No Deisel petrol pump near by 50 Kms (Ramgarh). It is a well connected musium on project Bharatmala Highway , 100 kms away from Jaisalmer and 15 kms inside LOC . The muesium is well maintained and has minimal entry fee. Fully maintained by Indian Army at Longewala. Only 37 kms away from Tanot mata mandir. It has the war captured tanks and vehicles also has 16 min of movie show on 1971 war victory.
The site of the famous Battle of Longewala of the 1971 Indo Pak war. Has a museum and an audio visual show along with some war trophies and preserved bunkers. Also present are props from the film Border.
The battle of Longewala was a prime engagement between India and Pakistan during the 1971 war. The battle fought in Thar Desert of Rajasthan proved decisive in establishing that Indian military was mightier with superior tactical moves than their Pakistani counterparts. The Pakistani side suffered a humiliating defeat and a major blow to their overall battle strategy. Since that day, Battle of Longewala has been epitomized and immortalized through documentaries, movies and serials depicting the valor of Indian soldiers fighting against all odds.
