One of the most beautiful places in the world. Loktak is so unique. It is the only floating national park in the world. The view is mesmerizing. Boat riding costs 500 for 6 persons for 15 minutes. They'll drop you at a small island inside the lake for 5 minutes. Facilities also felt nice. More improvements would be nice. Tourism department Should give more promotion worldwide. Transportation facilities towards the place should also be improved. Totally a must visit place.

30km off from Imphal, close to Bishnupur. To see the lake ticket is not required but for boating at the lake 700 INR per boat is required. Per head not possible. So if u are a solo traveler alike me try to manage a group of people less than 8 so that u can get the boat ride and share the amount. Actually I did like that, a group of high school students were came to boat ride and I joined with them. Loktak Day is celebrated on 15th of October at the periphery of the Loktak lake. So if u r planning to visit Imphal/North East on 15th October try to be there. Leme share the importance of loktak lake: 1. Loktak Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the world. 2) This lake is the formation of ancient supervolcanic caldera. 3) It is a pulsating lake, with surface area varying from 250 sq km to 500 sq km during rainy season. 4) The derivatives of word of Loktak is Lok = "stream" and tak = "the end". 5) you can see the 'phumdis' are floating all ob the lake. This lake is famous for the phumdis which means: heterogeneous mass of vegetation, soil and organic matter at various stages of decomposition. 6) Located on this phumdi, Keibul Lamjao National Park is the only floating national park in the world. 7) The park is the last natural refuge of the endangered Sangai (state animal), Rucervus eldii eldii or Manipur brow-antlered deer (Cervus eldi eldi), one of three subspecies of Eld's deer. Importance: This ancient lake plays an important role in the economy of Manipur. It serves as a source of water for hydropower generation, irrigation and drinking water supply. The lake is also a source of livelihood for the rural fishermen who live in the surrounding areas and on phumdis, also known as "phumshongs". Human activity has led to severe pressure on the lake ecosystem. 55 rural and urban hamlets around the lake have a population of about 100,000 people. Considering the ecological status and its biodiversity values, the lake was initially designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention on 23 March 1990. It was also listed under the Montreux Record on 16 June 1993, "a record of Ramsar sites where changes in ecological character have occurred, are occurring or are likely to occur".

One of the largest fresh water Lake in India, situated in Imphal, Manipur, boating facilities are available with floating restaurant, aquatic weeds and plants collectively make floating bodies of 3-4ft thickness, which can bear small houses, people, there are some water bodies surrounded by same type weeds which form pond like circular structure for fishing, but main thing is that the visitors and locals must take care for maintaining the cleanliness of the surroundings, because later it will be a dumping ground for plastics, bottles, cans, etc,

Loktak Lake in Manipur is a unique and diverse ecosystem that supports a variety of plant and animal species, making it a popular destination for biologists and nature enthusiasts. The lake is home to over 100 species of aquatic plants, including the endangered water lily, which is found only in this region. The lake is also a crucial habitat for a number of fish species, including the murrel, which is a popular food fish in the region. However, the lake is facing several environmental challenges, including pollution and the overuse of fishing nets, which have led to a decline in fish populations. Efforts are being made to preserve the biodiversity of Loktak Lake, including the establishment of a biodiversity conservation center. The center serves as a research hub and provides educational opportunities for visitors to learn about the lake's ecology and conservation efforts. In conclusion, Loktak Lake is a rich and diverse ecosystem that offers a unique opportunity for biologists and nature enthusiasts to explore and learn about the region's biodiversity. However, it is important to continue efforts to protect and conserve this precious ecosystem for future generations.
