Ruins of Tippu's palace, nothing much to see other than a raised platform, few crumbling stairs and an arch.
Srirangapatna Govt Silk Saree Factory Outlet Scam Recently me & my wife got scammed into buying "Silk Saree" from "Factory Outlet" of "Govt Silk Factory" of Srirangapatna. Saree is not silk, shop is not Govt's & we are 4k poorer & feeling very stupid about it - so this warning to fellow travellers !! It happened like this. We visited Srirangapatna in our own car. Inside Srirangapatna one man offered guide services for Rs 400, showed some I-card - we accepted. He sat in our car & directed to various sites & explained, helped parking & was very decent - never tried to take us to saree shops - we were happy. As we approached Tipu's Summer palace (which is a museum now) he pointed to some buildings & casually mentioned that it is the Govt Silk Factory - we did not pay much attention. The true artistry came next. He said the silk factory outlet is here (shop is beside Sukhsagar restaurant - restaurant is good ). If we just step in once, he will get some point - which will help his daughter get some benefits in school. we were hooked - should definitely do this much for a girl child ! on top of that, he said there is no GST - as it is a "factory outlet" !! The moment we stepped in, we met the second artist - a very decent & sincere looking woman warmly welcomed us & in no time we found ourselves browsing through sarees. We feebly enquired once if it is really Govt & madam sincerity assured us - helped my wife drape the sarees & look into mirror - we were under a spell. We selected one saree & paid - saree was packed in brown paper packet & put in an unmarked bag - no typical Govt emporium bag. And the saree bill was given - and the spell was broken - the bill has nothing to do with Govt - I got the first uncomfortable feeling. Now, the first artist - the guide - thought it prudent to slip away - he told us that as the next stop is a museum, he will not be allowed inside. also, the Gumbaz - Tipu's tomb is on the way & I can see it on my own !! He collected his 400 & left. But the museum was so beautiful, our bitterness became bearable ! My suggestion to all will be - under NO circumstances, enter ANY shop. If you find yourselves inside a shop, refuse to purchase or ask to see the bill book or shop registration BEFORE any payment. Also, in Mysore, as I was driving on the road to Mysore palace, some fellows on scooters came near driver's side window & tried to misguide - that palace is closed now, the road ahead is blocked etc - wanted to direct us to some "silk factory" ! Good luck !
Heroic remains of Tipu's crumbling empire.. Jst watch and Know the history.... No other options here... Any time u can see the remaining palace... You can come here by own vehicle or kasrtc....
A destructed destination. A place where history is witnessed. This palace is all gone...it is only the remaining that we get to see. Even when the palace is small we can see how well the works have been done at that period of time taking care of the water system and all that.
Lal Mahal Palace or famously known as Tipu Sultan's Palace is just adjacent to the parking of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. There is nothing great about this place. You may just allocate 5 mins for this place.
Tipu's Palace, also known as the Lal Mahal, is situated in Srirangapatna near the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple. This double storey ornate palace was built in 1791 and was used by Tipu Sultan as his summer retreat. After the death of Tipu Sultan, British used this palace as a secretariat till 1867. Col Wellesley destroyed Lal mahal after the seige of Srirangapattana.
Nothing is there in the lal mahal palace, it's just a concrete floor, you can hardly see any leftovers of the palace. I recommend not to include it in the check list. Most of the places in this location are poorly maintained and have a foul smell in most areas. There is no ticket for most areas apart from the summer palace. Even if you are an archeological liver, you can't able to see anything
The Lal Mahal and Tipu's palace inside the fort were demolished in 1799 when the British captured the fort.
