Lakhudiyar rock painting cave has paintings from stone age in white, black and red colors. The paintings show human figures, trees, animals and also a river which flows nearby, and is visible from the cave. It has a rock formation with upper part working as canopy to protect the inner walls from rain and sun, which is why these paintings are still in good condition. Its a good place to visit with family.

"I cannot look at modern buildings without thinking of historical ones." A place where you find ancient rock paintings, which are around thousands of years old. You definitely don't comprehend the signs, paintings but for sure these signs and paintings reflect the journey of human transformation. The itineration from the manual articulations in combination with non-manual elements i.e sign language to learn and master the most of the languages is a great evidence of transformation. This site is situated ahead of famous chitai golu temple , which is preserved by regional archeological office. this preservation just followed not only on the board but also on the site, but the last one is really missing. The historical evidences of rock paintings were surpassed by the heart sign of some particular people , which shows the boorish mentality of people. Something has to be done by the regional archeological offices to preserve the haritage sites of the related state and will make this site a tourist attraction. Must visit site and gather some useful information regarding the history of uttrakhand state, but with responsibly!!

They say "Human evolution is unidirectional", I highly doubt that. A species took thousands of years to evolve their consciousness and maybe another thousand to create language and drawings & a m0ron of the same species took only a minute to diminish that journey of evolution by scribing the marks of his love on it. I went to this place just to put my hands on the fingerprints of early man, to touch the 'history' and I was so amazed by it. Amazed by the fact that how advance the humans have become in a very short period. We were living in a cave like an animal back then and now we are embarking our journey into space. It bewilders me that people after visiting this site, and witnessing these drawings say, ''is that it?'' I don't know why they get disappoint by finding only the presence of drawings there I mean what were they expecting, the fossil of dinosaurs? Anyway, it's a good place to sit and relax for a moment above the same rock which looks like the head of a serpent. The cool breeze and greenery of the place smooth the eyes of the perceiver. P.S. Take your water/beer bottle and wrappers of snacks with you. That place offers you peace, don't offer it your garbage. PLEASE. DON'T.

THEY are still there....can you imagine....THEY are still there... despite the unfavorable weather for thousands of years, despite the neo-modern culture of despising and destroying each and everything, despite the all around love marks, and despite the indifferent attitude of the Archeology Department...the pre-historic cave paintings of Lakhudiyar are still there. Thanks to advertising, Bheembetakaa is a known name to history lovers but a place no less important... Lakhudiyar is unknown to most. A little from Almora, on the way to famous Jageshwar Dham, Lakhudiyar Cave or rather a small cave like structure still exists and still exists pre- historic cave paintings... paintings drawn by cave men to express themselves... paintings drawn with mere fingers and with colours made from tree stem. They are there...still dancing and fighting...still VIBRANT with LIFE .... waiting for YOUR kind presence.

A small hidden place on the way from Almora to Jageshwar. It is believed that the ancient community have drawn some paintings on the rocks but sadly tourists and visitors have scratched their names and left another heritage dirty and shown their illiteracy about taking care of our heritage.

I visited this place in December 2021, was on my way to Almora view point and reached this place. Lakhudiyar means 'one lakh caves'. As I have a keen interest in history and love to visit offbeat places, this was a gem. This place is historical heritage and protected site. There is a gate in place and no entry fee. Though it is not properly managed, paintings or signs drawn (Cave Paintings) with some kind of red ink or stone are visible, few might have vanished. All you need is 30mins to visit this entire site, go through the kind of cave (not exactly a cave but a shelter) climb of the top of it to get a nice view of the valley and river below. It is on the road to Jageshwar Dham. It is believed to be forty thousand (40 Thousand) years old. Another visitor on the location told me there are more than dozen of such location in Uttarakhand alone. Road from Almora is narrow still it is a pleasant drive with pine trees on both sides and very few vehicles on the road. At number of places you can stop and click pictures. Sign boards are nicely placed and visible, clearly written on them. It is on the turn and it will be a surprise if you miss it. I saw it on Google Maps later, I have my doubts about it positioning on the maps, but still you will reach it if you put it on the map. No dedicated parking put there is ample space to park 10-15 cars and you will see only 1-2 or none are parked.

An important facet of archeological history is left ungaurded allowing miscreants to use the place for drinking and others to deface the ancient prehistoric rock paintings. The rocks and paintings are regularly directly touched by people having smeared a substantial portion within reach that were visible earlier. An ASI board provides no protection or greater information about the significance of the early human history in that region.

I went here with too much excitement but not much to explore. There is just one giant rock on which there are some paintings which are very faded. Also it's not much visited by tourists so you won't find any shops nearby.
