Nearly the perfect place to stay in Kodaikanal. The room, service, and food were all very very good. Breakfast was expansive, as was lunch and dinner. They also packed superb sandwiches for our return train journey.
One of the best experiences we had everyday was to get up at 0530, make a cup of tea, and sit outside to watch the sun rise. There was a lone bird that would sit on a post, and dive every now and then to grab a worm. In addition, there were a bunch of Mynahs that would chatter and chase worms on the lawn.
To top it all was the lake becoming visible, and gentle mists rolling across the mountains.
What more can one ask for?
Actually I wanted to give 3.5 Star but there was no option so couldn't give. Overall the place is very neat and clean. Well maintained gardens. Good walk area inside. Overall pleasant. Staff behaviour is very good. There are nice flowers. However couple of points which I felt a bit different. One the price is too high compared to my overall experience and facilities. I had to spend more than 30 K for 3 nights , which I felt was very high compared to it's overall experience I had though it had included two times food. Food was good. The lake is not close to the resort anymore. So there is not awesome view of lake from the room. From some places it is visible but it's little far. Few more small points are also there but just skipping. That is why I felt it is 3.5 out of 5 in my personal feelings.

The best cafe in Vattakanal. They serve Israeli dishes mainly. We have visited Althafs every time we visited vattakanal. My favourite is the schnitzel plate , hot chocolate and Nutella pancake.

Great place to stay, was with my family for my father's birthday. Wonderful hospitality by the owners and staff. Clean large bedrooms and view from the garden is a must. Glad we booked this stay as it was very close to the town yet secluded. Must try
