Kuno National Park - Featured Reviews (2909)
Kuno National Park, located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India, has recently become one of the most talked-about national parks on social media due to the successful implementation of Project Cheetah. This project involves the introduction of eight African cheetahs to the park, which has garnered international attention. The park was declared a national park in 2018 after years of conservation efforts and covers an area of approximately 344 square kilometres. It boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the magnificent Indian leopard and Southeast African Cheetah. The history of Kuno National Park dates back to the early 1990s, when the Indian government proposed the idea of reintroducing Asiatic lions to areas beyond their existing habitat in Gujarat's Gir National Park. This was done to reduce the risk of a single disease outbreak wiping out the entire lion population. Kuno Wildlife Sanctuary, which later became Kuno National Park, was identified as a suitable site for the reintroduction program. The sanctuary was located in an area where lions had historically roamed, and the ecosystem was deemed suitable for their survival. Villagers were shifted outside the forests and an area of 924 square kilometres of the buffer zone was added between 1998 and 2003. In 2009, it became a possible site to reintroduce cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh. And, in 2018, it was given the status of a national park and enlarged by an area of 413 square kilometres.
