Kumbhalgarh National Park - National park in Alsipura - Rajsamand, India

I must say its a pretty awesome place. Look, its not a place known for its regular sightings like Ranthambore National park, but the scenery of this place is gorgeous. I'm a wildlife researcher and I have visited several national parks and reserves in India, but I found Kumbhalgarh National Park one of the most beautiful in terms of landscape. The place comprises large number of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc., namely, leopard, Sloth bear, indian wolf, striped hyena, sambar, wild boar, golden jackal, chausingha Indian fox, caracal, jungle cat, nilgai, etc. During my trip, I have sighted a leopard, several langurs, ruddy mongoose, sambar, peafowl, jungle fowl, etc. Although, sighting of a leopard is a matter of chance, and I was very lucky that I saw one. If your only goal is to see a large carnivore, visit the zoo instead. This place is all about its landscape, which will surely captivate you. It is almost 170 kms away from the Udaipur city, and a taxi (sedan) will charge approx 3k-4k for it. You can visit Ranakpur Jain temple and Kumbhalgarh fort during the trip, which are nearby tourist spots (and I don't think these two places need introduction). I would recommend you to take evening safari, as I have heard that there are more chances of sighting during that time (In Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary). Although, its a matter of chance. There a forest chowki named "aareth chowki", where you can book your safari. I would recommend you to first book an evening safari, and then you can visit the Kumbhalgarh fort in the remaining time (which itself is huge and magnificent). There's also a place named "Fish point" nearby (barely 2-3 kms away), which is basically a small lake (Hammeripal lake) where you can see a large number of african catfish (its quite unreal). Its a less crowded place, so you can spend some quality time over there. Kumbhalgarh National Park was considered as one of the reintroduction sites of Asiatic lions, while at present the likelihood of reintroduction of tigers to Kumbhalgarh National Park is quite high.. So it's quite obvious that there's something good about this place. Camera doesn't do justice to this place. If you are visiting Udaipur or Kumbhalgarh fort, without any second thought book your safari.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan State in western India.[3] It surrounds the Kumbhalgarh fortress and covers an area of 610.528 km2 (236 sq mi).[2] The sanctuary extends across the Aravalli Range, covering parts of Rajsamand, Udaipur, and Pali districts, ranging from 500 to 1,300 metres (1,600 to 4,300 ft) in elevation. It is part of the Khathiar-Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion.[4]The sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife,[3] some of which are endangered species.[6] The wildlife includes the Indian wolf, Indian leopard, sloth bear, striped hyena, Golden jackal, jungle cat, sambhar, nilgai, chausingha (the four horned antelope), chinkara and Indian hare. The leopard is the apex predator in the sanctuary.[2] The birds at Kumbhalgarh includes the normally shy and untrusting grey junglefowl.[8] Peacocks and doves can be sighted feeding on grains scattered by the jungle guards. Birds like the red spurfowl, parakeet, golden oriole, grey pigeon, bulbul, dove and white breasted kingfisher can also be seen near the water holes.Main article: Asiatic Lion Reintroduction Project Kumbalgarh Sanctuary was one of the places that were considered for the reintroduction of the Asiatic lion.[9] With the recent Supreme Court of India judgment favoring the relocation of lions over that of cheetahs in India, a proposal was made to the Government of Rajasthan, by wildlife conservationist Raza H. Tehsin in April 2009.[10

Awesome place. People were good at hospitality. The cook was good with his delicious menu. Adventurous too when you come to know that leopard visit the place any time. The Kumbhalgarh fort view was great..

Good atmosphere at centre of forest total 22 km run of forest from start to end gate also a 3 to 4 gate available in forest where different locations like in first we see monkey, birds, pickock and in second to third we see lepord bear like and sabar like that a good atmosphere and best time is evening

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. Covering a total surface area of 578 sq km and stretching across the Aravalli ranges, it encircles parts of Udaipur, Rajsamand, and Pali. The wildlife sanctuary encompasses the historic Kumbhalgarh Fort and is also named after the fort. This hilly dense forest of Kumbhalgarh will definitely prove to be a pleasant surprise for those who consider Rajasthan a desert state. The green tract of the park forms a dividing line between the two different parts of Rajasthan; Mewar and Marwar.
