Actually, Kovalalan pottal is the place of note in our anvient tamil literature Silapathigaram as the place where ancient Pandiyan king hangged Kovalan Husband of Kannagi who burnt entire Madurai city for the reason of bad judgement of the king against Kovalan. Area may call with this name whereas nothing left for our next generations to understand and believe.
Heart was filled with sorrow, when had a thought of Kovalan's execution ( beheaded )here by king Pandian.
