One of the best place to spent the evening. The place is neat, clean and full of greenery. One should definitely visit here in the evening to enjoy the place at its fullest. There is also remains of the fort as well a burial body of a Dutch person in showcase. The parking facility os not that good but there is free toilet facility available in here.

Please note there is no big fort. . There are only some remaining that you have to imagine from the excavations. Nearby park is so nice that you can sit and enjoy views of harbor and river. Parking will be littlebit difficult that only 4 to 5 cars can be parked at a time.

The remains of a once great fort built by Portuguese in 1500 s AD. Significant is it's strategic location in the riverbank. Tipu Sultan destroyed this fortification during his Malabar raid and what we can see today is onky the skeleton of a once proud fort, visivle only after the years long excavations by Archeological Survey of India. The access to the site is through a narrow road through river side and the Parking facilities are almost nil. Kottappuran 'Angadi' or market near to the site is also worth watching, which has till now preserved it's old age looks

Known as Crankanur Fort "Kottapuram Fort". Built by the Portuguese in 1523 AD. The Dutch captured the fort in 1663. Later Travancore fort was bought for a price with the permission of the British East India Company. In 1789, Tipu Sultan attacked and destroyed the fort. In 1909, the fort was declared a protected monument by the Travancore Archaeological Department. The fort was abandoned for a long time until the State Archeology Department launched an expedition in 2009. Excavations have uncovered ramparts, foundations of several buildings, human skeletons, and archaeological remains representing the Portuguese-Dutch period and earlier periods. Entry to the general public is permitted on all days except Monday. The people, and the people alone, are the motive force in the making of world history

Visited Kottappuram Fort today, a historical gem with roots dating back to the Portuguese in 1523. This fort's strategic location on the mouth of the Periyar River offers a glimpse into its role in past conflicts between the Zamorin and the rulers of Cochin. Now preserved as a public property, it's a testament to the region's rich history and the Dutch influence that followed.

Nice. This is Kottappuram fort remains. It is near Kodungalloor. One can visit here in the working hours 9am or 10 i won't remember it --to 5pm. Here it is written that it is one of the remains of a Portuguese fort which was built in 1504. But now we can see only the remains of the fort now. A skeleton is preserved here and the authorities told that it is one of a Portuguese national under 25 years of age. We can walk through the meadows preserved quite nicely here. Here we have to pay entry fees . Here parking area nearby is very small

Narrow roads take you to this Fort built by the Portuguese in 1523 - referred to popularly as Cranganore Fort and is now known as Kodungallur Fort. It is in a state of disrepair as a result of age or neglect, though a construction of roof covers it for now. You may find it hard to park your vehicle around this place. This fort ruins lie on a strategic point at the mouth of the river Periyar before it joins the Arabian Sea. Huge trees provide a good green canopy to the park around and that is helpful to the young lovers to relax here. In reality there is nothing much to see here.

Kottapuram Fort, situated in Kodungallur, Kerala, India, is a historically significant structure that has witnessed various empires and cultural influences over the centuries. This fort holds a crucial position in Kerala's history due to its strategic location along the Periyar River, connecting the Arabian Sea to the interior regions. Believed to have been constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century, the fort was later occupied by the Dutch, and eventually, it came under British control. Kottapuram Fort served as a trading post, primarily facilitating the spice trade, which was of immense economic importance during that era. The fort's architectural features reveal the influence of European design, with bastions, cannons, and battlements that are reminiscent of colonial military structures.
