A serene place to visit and spend quality time. 60-65 kms road drive from Kolhapur. It is worth visiting. The vibes are so positive and you get mental peace. It is a stunning example of ancient architecture. Kopeshwar Temple is at Khidrapur, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. This temple is in Maharashtra It is also accessible from Sangli as well. It was built in the 12th century by Shilahara king Gandaraditya between 1109 and 1178 CE. It is to the east of Kolhapur, ancient & artistic on the bank of the Krishna river. Legend has it that Lord Shiva was furious when sati Parvati jumped into Daksha's sacrifice. Lord Vishnu then brought Shiva to the temple to calm him down. Hence the temple got the name as 'Kopeshwar' which translates to the furious god. Nearest Station and Bus stand : Kolhapur Railway Station / S.T Bus depot in Kolhapur city.
It's a different Temple, Nice stone carving, unique structure.
Very Nice temple with great artwork of stone. The construction and architectural design is very nice and very interesting. Nice place to visit for mental piece and happiness. Definitely a must go place whenever possible. Highly recommended...
Temple from the 11th century (CE). The stone carvings of the temple are intricate and simply breathtaking. Every pillar, door, wall and each corner is an artistic marvel. The most beautifully designed part is the open ceiling which has a meticulously carved symmetric circle, which allows the sun light to flow in. It's a relatively unpopular temple and not a very huge one but totally worth a visit. If you are traveling on the Mumbai-Belgaum highway, this is at about a 2hrs deviation.
One of the best temple in India.. kopeshwar temple located at khidrapur maharastra.. built in 1909

Ancient temple. Some 1200 yrs old. Many Statues were broken by Aurangjeb. Beautiful temple. Great architecture. Go by sangli route and not through kolhapur route.
The second battle took place between Shilahara king Bhoj-II and Devagiri Yadav king Singhan-II, during which king Bhoj-II was captured by Yadavas and was kept captive on the fort of Panhala. This event is recorded in the 1213 CE inscription near the south entrance of the temple. This battle brought the rule of the Kolhapur branch of Shilaharas to end.[1] There are about a dozen inscriptions on the inside and outside of this temple, out of which only a couple of inscriptions are in good condition now. These inscriptions reveal the names of few kings and their officers. All these inscriptions except one are in Kannada language and script. The only Devanagari inscription in Sanskrit language is by Singhan-II and is located on the outer wall near South entrance of the temple.
It was one of the most beautiful historical moments I have seen. The temple built with Hemadpant structural style, it faced Aurangzeb's invasion and his attempted destruction. Aurangzeb has distructed trunks of the elephants and defaced human statues
