Kolukkumalai Sunrise Jeep Safari - Tourist attraction in Kottagudi, Suryanelli - Idukki, India

Overall worth the whole experience of watching the sunrise. You can hire any jeep to come pick you up from your hotel at 4:30am. This will ensure you reach just before the sunrise. However, I personally recommend leaving 15 minutes early to ensure you get a good spot on the mountain top to watch the sunrise. A bed of clouds below you and the sun above you is a sight depending on the days weather and cannot be guaranteed but the view is definitely amazing irrespective. It will be cold so take a jacket. The jeeps usually charge about 2500 but it's worth the experience. There are a few more smaller treks in the mountains which you can ask your jeep driver to guide you and take photos for you. Take in the sights and enjoy. Make sure you wear sports shoes that fully cover your feet to avoid leeches. Some parts of the mountain may have leeches.

This place is a must visit if you are in Munnar. The sunrise here is one of the most serene that i have ever experienced in my life. You have to leave 4am in the morning and require to hire a 4x4 jeep. The offroad route is really challenging and a thrilling experience. Elders might face some difficulty because of lot of movements in jeep ride but the end result is breath taking. Try to reach early and leave early to avoid rush in the route.

Kolukkumalai is a must-visit place for hilltop lovers in when you visit Munnar. The Jeep ride to the hilltop and the trekking for the sunrise seem like incredible experiences. Staying in a tent or camping with arrangements for Jeep trekking is a great way to fully enjoy this gem. The combination of natural beauty and adventure makes it a unique destination for nature enthusiasts.

Costs 2500Rs for a 3 hour experience, for us four people. The jeep can fit quite a lot of people, like two families (6-10 people), so the per head cost of the ride will be significantly lower, but they say only 6 allowed, so idk. There are no restaurants or anything at the base camp, just a lady selling 15Rs black coffee and a toilet(pretty useful). They charge 80Rs additional for car parking btw. We reached the place at 3:45am and waited till 4:30 when they took us (4) in a jeep. Took around an hour to reach the peak, then another 15 minutes walk to the view point, and we saw the sunrise, albeit with little visibility due to the clouds. By 6:50 we returned back to our guy waiting for us and returned back to the base, taking another hour. The ride was pretty daunting but fun. Amazing views and the cold guarantee a fun time lol. Saw the tea plantations and small cabins. Overall, definitely recommended, especially for families with elders or kids, or if you're into off-road trekking.

Amazing place, amazing view,superb off-road experience. If you are going on the weekends or public holidays it is better to arrange a jeep. For the jeep they charge 2.5k and for sunrise view it is better to reach suryanelli around 4.30-5am. From the town suryanelli there are share taxis to get back to munnar.

It's the best sunrise point I have ever seen. This place is totally surrounded by huge mountains and you have to take the jeep ride to reach to the point and from there you need to trek for 5mins to get to the sunrise view point.It's one of the most beautiful and thrilling places in India. Do visit once.

It's great experience. If you are ready to have one hour bumpy ride in rough hills. After reaching on top you can see the best ever sunrise .

It is honestly not worth it. Not because the place is bad but because it is not worth paying 2500 Rs for a jeep safari that takes you through almost 1.5 hours of agony. The road(or lack thereof) to the top is horrendous. The toilet facilities at the ticket counter at the base and also at the top are also terrible. You are much better off visiting the beautiful Eravikulam national park which provides a far more comfortable and peaceful journey. And the view at Kolukkumalai is not unique either. You have to be lucky to actually get the views they publicize. You can get the same view and feel in much more easily accessible places like Top Station, Lockhart Gap road view point, Kattadipara, Kottapara, Kakkadampoyil or any of the dozens of beautiful foggy misty view points of Idukki and Wayanad. All of which are free and won't break your break. That being said if you are okay to shell out money and hurt your back for a day, you can try this out. The jeep drivers are very nice people and you can try out the so called highest altitude organic tea at the top. The views within the tea estate are also quite dramatic. I would still recommend that you use your time to enjoy the scenic gap road drive which offers heavenly views, or try out the outstanding Meesapulimala trek or any of the countless other activities in an around Munnar.
