The Kolis, the fishing community and original inhabitants of Mumbai are getting marginalised by the development of the metropolis. This is a monument to remind us of them and to remember integrating their interests in the development of Mumbai.
The original people of Mumbai, the Koli clan are basically a fishermen Community. Extremely warm, generous, friendly and hardworking the community forms the basic fabric of the Mumbai society. The name Mumbai owes its origin to the Mumbadevi temple in Dongri, worshipped by the Kolis.
