The rules have changed recently, no outside cars are allowed in the sanctuary. Only 15 seater or 20 seater swaraz majda is available at Rs750 per vehicle. Rs 55 per head for entry fee. Black buck deers is available and migratory birds are seen during winter. One has to take hired vehicle to the sanctuary gate. Veradenium is nearest locality
Beautiful place.. must visit if you are closer to this place.. lot of deers.. different types of birds.. the beach was nice.. lot of crabs on the beach.. loved this place.. there is a safari by govt vehicle.. Mor or eve time is best time to see wild life..
Had taken a two-wheeler to this place and since they are not allowed inside the sanctuary, walked the 5km (approx) distance to the beach. The December sun was friendly. Can find Wild horse, spotted dear. Was not lucky in finding a black buck. The walk was good and refreshing. Wanted to get across to the small island and didn't go as the water was muddy.
Such a beautiful, historic place. Each and every citizen of this country should visit once, especially tamilnadu people. It's a great experience to see a light house built 1100 years ago. Can spend whole day here. Be prepared with your own food, otherwise will be a problem for group with children and senior citizens. Black bucks, horses and various birds are visible on the way to light house. End point is fisherman beach
Wildlife sanctuary for blackbuck and wild ponies. Also excellent bird life. Marsh land with bushes and shrubs with intermittent water bodies. Entrance to the sanctuary is maintained by the Tamilnadu forest department. No personal vehicles are permitted. Entry only through forest department organized van and bus. Rental for the vehicle and entrance fee for individuals to be paid. Entry by foot is not permitted. Plenty of black bucks and wild horses can be seen. Trip takes you to the old light house built by british and finally to the Chola period ancient light house which is in a dilapidated condition. There is a watch tower in that location which allows viewers to notice the Kodikarai bend of the sea coast.
It is a fantastic place, declared as Sanctuary to protect black buck and more 270 species of birds including variety of migratory waterbirds. 10km from Vedaranyam and around 300km from Chennai, 175km from Trichy. Best time to visit the place is winter (Nov-Feb).
No more private vehicles allowed inside. They have a big van to take inside. You can share with other family. I think it's totally 800. We paid in full and took. As there was no one to share. But dont expect this place like a zoo. You are getting along with nature and entering animals habitat. But surely you can see animals. We went morning but still they open later around 9 am on weekdays and close around sunset time. So sunset ride will be the good one. Lots of deers, wild horses and birds. Best time to visit will be oct to Feb. Nearby bird sanctuary can be covered.
Calm & nice place. Blackbucks and horses are there. We can drive our car into the sanctuary. Roads inside the sanctuary will not be smooth (it might have been kept intentionally so that nobody drives faster inside).
