Kodaikanal Solar Observatory Museum - Featured Reviews (3067)
Though visited kodaikanal many times, but due to miscellaneous reasons couldn't visit this place. But this year trip we made it to this Solar Observatory, which was established by the British in 1895. Glad to visit this place this year on our Independence Day. The security at the gate provides enough information. The staff at the museum explains in detail N with patience. Nowadays because of the Internet we may learn more about the solar system, but definitely we must go N see this place. Visitors vehicles are not allowed inside campus. From the main gate we have to walk for 500m and little uphill to reach the museum. It's peaceful inside campus. And good walking too. Spare 3 to 4 hours to enjoy this place. Take your own water bottles. Please don't litter the place. Restrooms are available. Good for students.
It was a totally unexpected visit and we were quite surprised by the experience we had. Kids loved the place and green ambience within the campus. The staff were really helpful in explaining the physics and really did a great job in setting up the telescopes when the sky cleared. Great work.
Very useful for children and adults to know more about Sun, Solar system and Universe. The walkway is very beautiful and lot of frames for selfie and family photos.
It's a good place for students, teachers, and science aspirants. It's a solar observatory established by British people during invasion. You could learn about various properties and aspects of the sun and the planets around it from the museum and the library. You could watch the live movement of the sun using suitable equipment. Research guides in the facility will help you to understand the museum and help you to use the observatory equipment. The climate in the facility will make you comfortable along with the knowledge
Best thing in kodai apart from tourist attraction Best time to visit: Fridays at 10 am, as the observation of sun's spot can be seen clearly, due to less pollution from the clouds and mists Parking besides the rose garden Kodaikanal, Fees: free Timings 9am-12pm, not aware of evening slot Documentary available on request and public demand They have really maintained their equipments well, Entry fees: 25 per person, camera: mobile/DSLR You will learn a lot about the sun and the importance/ significance of sun in our galaxy/solar system There are 2 guide-cum-scientist, who will explain in both Tamil and English, they explain briefly about all of the history of the place and the sun's roles in the universe Do not miss this oppertunity at Kodaikanal
It was very amazing to know this was one of the earliest solar observatory and one of three observatories. It's an institute. Right now there is not much too see. We can see live sun and sometimes Saturn and Moon. We need to make prior appointments to watch Saturn.
Stars are for overall experience about this place. 1) Approach road is on one-way and internal roads are scenic. 2) During holidays approach road is tremendously congested and traffuck crawls @ 1km/hr.. have experienced this. 3) The staff is courteous however explain only in Tamil and not even in Hindi or English. 4) Entrance fee is Rs50/- person but is not worth what we get to see and information that's provided.
1.Visit only when sun is clear others wise waste. 2. I seen two layers of sun through telescope . and rainbow colour effects . 3. Museum full of written notes boring to read. 4. 10 minutes video documentery. 5. Camera prohibited inside museum.

I had the pleasure of indulging in some truly delicious hot chocolate, which I savored from a beautiful handmade ceramic teacup. The combination of the hot, rich cocoa and the smooth texture of the ceramic cup made for a truly delightful experience.
