Khambhalida Buddhist Caves - Featured Reviews (1074)
Archeologically important and very ancient Buddhist caves with a small river flowing in front of the caves and lots of green trees in surroundings. Surrounding environment is calm and cool. Enough parking space available outside. New Buddhist temple besides these caves is also being developed.
10minutes from Khambhalida Temple these Buddhist caves are a hidden gem. This is a very small part of what could have been a bigger residence or meditation cave for Buddhist Monks in the ancient era. The cave is not open for exploration but this is a must visit if you are a history buff. Also, the natural environment makes a perfect opt for a photoshooot. The place is secluded and in the middle of a jungle, many locals can be spotted however avoid wandering off the trek one can easily gets lost in the Jungle.
Archeologist P. P. Pandya discovered these Buddhist caves in 1958. These caves are maintained by the Archaeology Department of Gujarat state. The caves are situated at the foot of small hillocks on the banks of a spring. They are carved out of limestone rocks. There are three caves, the central one contains the stupa which is known as chaitya cave. There are two sculptures of Bodhisattva on the either sides of the gate of the chaitya cave. On the left, the figure is probably Padmapani under Ashoka-like tree with a female companion and five attendants. There is a yaksha-like dwarf on the left of it holding a basket. The figure on the right is probably Vajrapani under Ashoka-like tree with similar attendants.
Small place but good to see the caves and beauty of Jungle specially in rain season.
Best place but government should take care of this heritage site

The famous Baudh caves of Khambhalida are one of the unique sites of budhist caves in this region. Several amenities have been created in recent times, like gazebos, toilets etc. There is also a convention centre created close by, as well as a large parking area.
Place is not in great shape, needs lots of redevelopment and maintenance. No info is available on the caves and it's history. Surrounding area is good for trekking.
The construction work is abandoned by some reason , why this place is so beautiful and calm , my Request to the government please complete this beautiful temple.
