Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur, India. A Ramsar Site. Keoladeo national park is named after Keoladeo Mahadev, This ancient Shiv temple is 350+ years old and was built by Maharaja Surajmal. There is an interesting story is associated with this temple. Priest of the temple told us that in ancient time nearby farmers and people used to come to this place to graze their animals and everyday and a farmer"s cow used to stand under banana tree and start giving milk. This incident was seen by farmer and he later informed Maharaja Surajmal about this. After digging the place under banana tree a shiva lingam emerged. End of the shivling could not be found after continuous attempts of digging and was later established in same form and a temple was built which is known as Keoladeo Mahadev temple. A Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar convention, also known as "The convention on Wetlands". An intergovernmental environmental treaty established by UNESCO in 1971 and named after the city of Ramsar in Iran, where the convention was signed that year. Total Sites: 2493 sites covering over 634,532,180 acres (10Sept 2023) Ramsar Sites in India: India currently has 75 sites designed as wetlands of International importance.
Its an old temple located around 6km from the starting point. This National park was originally known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. But it has been renamed after this temple and is currently known as Keoladeo National Park. We spotted a pair of owls sleeping on one of the trees just outside the temple. It is around 350 yrs old as per Mandir Pujari. A small cute temple. Has a Shivlinga of that old time. Built by Maraja Surajmal. Its almost at the end of Keoladeo Bird sanctuary Bharatpur when you go cycling till last. It also has a very nice lake infront of it along with a canteen and a high view point. Quite good experience of being there. Enjoy!!
The real name of this temple is keval ek dev, situated inside the Bharatpur Bird sanctuary. Very nice and serene place to visit with your family and friends.
Excellent temple inside the Bharatpur bird sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after this temple only. It's approx 5 kms from the main gate of the park. Can and quiet temple. Surrounding is superb. All lush green trees, continuous sound of birds that help you relax and enjoy. Adjacent to the temple is a small canteen where one can get tea, coffee, child drink etc. Clean toilets available A place where one can relax during the exhausting park visits.
Nice place to rest - at the center of the Nature Reserve. Small place where you can by a tiny glass of tea for few rupees and rest for a while. Lots of birds will try to snatch some food from you. Toilets. Worth visiting.
