We went there in the first week of June with our sibling nephews. I must say the track is quite good. Except for the man-made constructed cement steps. The height of those steps are so huge that I had cramps on right leg. There is a pond on the top and lots of fishes which makes us feel pleasant. Overall its really good track to go on weekend.
Kavnai fort trek start from the kavnai village. Road to village is in very good condition. You can park the car near hanuman temple in village. Space is available to park 4-5 four wheeler. Parking is free. Easy grade trek to climb, even children can climb the trek. On the ascending of around 40-45 min you reach the fort entrance where ladder are placed so the climbing is made easy. Vaitarana dam view from fort is awesome. On the top there is a temple of kamakshi mata. A lake is there in front of the temple. Lake a huge numbers of fish. Fort was not crowded. Home besides temple sale tea, biscuits, water bottles etc. Atmosphere at the top was windy and very beautiful.
I've not got chance to go fully inside the fort. That was evening time and didn't get chance to fully explore the fort. Therefore I'll update my review again once visits one more time.

The fort was built by Moghuls. It was ceded to Peshvas by Nizam under the terms of the treaty after the Battle of Udgir (1760).
Nearby this fort, Kapildhara tirth & Shri Ram Mandir are the ancient places, where Kumbhmela was conducted in past!

Trekking to the top of the fort is straightforward. There are rock-cut steps to the top. There is also a metal ladder that leads to the entrance of the fort.
Inside the fort, you can see the remnants of the fort and a small pond which is the main attraction.
When you climb on Fort you really know the work done by the grate shivaji maharaj and his team for our country.
Located in the Western Sahyadri range in Igatpuri is Kavnai Fort . It is 1 hour (easy to medium level) trek from the base i.e. Kavnai Village. Eventhough it is not a lengthy trail it has a variety of tracks like muddy, there were stones, steps, metal stair etc. At the top we experienced being inside the clouds, the lush green forests covering the surrounding landscapes . Cool breeze, drizzling rain (perfect weather) accompanied us I would say it is one of the best Forts to go for a monsoon trek
