Embarking on the Kousarnag Trek was like stepping into a realm of untouched beauty and raw wilderness. This extraordinary trek in the heart of Kashmir is a hidden gem that leaves adventurers like me spellbound, showcasing nature's grandeur in its purest form. The trek commenced with an awe-inspiring drive through the picturesque landscapes of Kashmir. The surrounding valleys and snow-capped peaks foreshadowed the enchanting journey that lay ahead. As we set foot on the trail, the air was infused with a sense of anticipation, and the lush greenery enveloped us, soothing our souls with every step. The true magic of the Kousarnag Trek lay in its ever-changing landscapes. From lush meadows adorned with vibrant wildflowers to dense forests of cedar and pine, each turn of the path unfolded a new marvel. Nature's symphony of sights and sounds surrounded us as we walked, with the melodious chirping of birds and the gentle gurgling of pristine streams echoing through the valley. The crown jewel of the Kousarnag Trek is, undoubtedly, the pristine Kousarnag Lake. Nestled at an altitude of 12,000 feet, the lake glistens like a sapphire gem amidst the towering mountains. The sight of the azure waters reflecting the surrounding peaks is a sight that imprints itself indelibly on one's memory. Spending time at the lake's edge, with the mountains as silent witnesses, evokes a profound sense of tranquility and connection with nature. The trek also offers moments of exhilaration as we traversed rocky terrains and crossed wooden bridges suspended above bubbling streams. The sense of accomplishment upon reaching higher altitudes and witnessing the panoramic vistas from mountain ridges was truly invigorating. The hospitality of the local people we encountered along the way added warmth and richness to the experience. Their genuine smiles and welcoming nature made us feel like part of their close-knit community. Sharing stories and savoring local delicacies around campfires enhanced the sense of camaraderie among fellow trekkers. Our trekking team was expertly led by seasoned guides who navigated the trail with confidence and ensured our safety at every step. Their extensive knowledge of the region's history, culture, and flora and fauna enriched the journey with fascinating insights. In conclusion, the Kousarnag Trek is a journey to paradise that unveils the raw beauty of Kashmir in all its glory. The harmonious blend of pristine landscapes, serene lakes, and warm-hearted locals creates an experience that is nothing short of magical. This trek is a soul-stirring adventure, rejuvenating both mind and spirit, and it is a testament to the magnificence of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. The memories of Kousarnag Trek will forever hold a cherished place in my heart, and I urge every avid adventurer to embark on this remarkable journey of a lifetime.

Kousarnag, known as the crown jewel of Alpine Lakes, is the second largest high-altitude lake in the Valley with an area of 110 Hectares. Literally 'Kausar Nag' means a spring which gifts life in Islamic literature and Hindus call it 'Vishnu Pad', meaning, 'Foot of Lord Vishnu'. Nestled in the lap of Pir Panjal Range, this beautiful lake is located at an altitude of around 3500m ASL with around 2.75 kms in length and 700m at the widest point. Surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Pir Panjal by east and west, this high-altitude enchanting lake, apparently has no visible water outlet. The Ice bergs remain floating in the lake for the whole summer on Its magical sapphire blue water. The beaten track starting from Gurwattan and passes through different scenic meadows and pastures leading to this pristine lake, gives spectacular views of nature on the way. The trek is almost moderate up to Mahinag, but the trail ahead ascending to the top is a bit challenging. This is the safest and most convenient route known to the people passionate in trekking. While there are several other known tracks approaching to this destination, but they are extremely dangerous and better to avoid them. Horses and potters can be easily hired on reasonable rates by the trekkers visiting Kounsernag. Best season to visit the lake is June to September. Route Details: MOTORABLE Srinagar to Kulgam (78 km via NH44) (64 km via NH444) Kulgam to Aharbal (28 km) Aharbal to Gurwattan (01 km) NON-MOTORABLE Gurwattan to Sangam (03.5 km) Sangam to Kongwattan (03.5 km) Kongwattan to Mahinag (09.5 km) Mahinag to Kausarnag (03.5 km) Campsites: 1. Kongwattan (preferable for 1st night). 2. Mahinag (preferable for 2nd night).

Intresting place to visit. The mountains around affirm the individual's right to wonder, think and belief. Among the most sought after adventure destinations, this place has also got the highest footfalls. Kounsarnag is a high attitude oligotrophic lake located at an elevation of 3850 meters above sea level. Trekkers have to foot a debatable to and fro distance of 34 kilometers to 37 kilometers from Aharabal via Sekijan or Kongwattan. Both these routes finally merge at Mahinag. Kounsarnag represents nature's rich tapestry. It is swathed by snow capped mountains of Pir Panjal range in the district Kulgam of Jammu and Kashmir. The pure and pristine lake is ice cold and crystal clear in appearance. Its dimensions approximately 3 km length and half a mile width makes it conspicuous and majestic. Its mesmerizing beauty is distinct which makes it a dream destination for the intrepid trekkers and nature lovers.
