Karnala Bird Sanctuary - Bird watching area in Navi Mumbai - Raigad, India

It's a good place to visit in the monsoon. Filled with lush greenery and beautiful scenic views. The walking trails and pretty but beware of mosquitoes. The hike up to the fort is a little slippery and around 2.5hrs upwards. So wear proper trekking shoes and carry water. The bird sanctuary in general isn't that good - hardly 4 types of birds to see. You need to carry binoculars and try to spot free birds. Couldn't see many types of flowers, it's mainly just trees. There is a canteen inside that servers tea, snack, thali and more. Too many monkeys around. Drinking water is available. Paid parking, for bikes - Rs.50 Entry fees for adults is Rs.60 This place is good for a quick and simple day outing.

Went trekking to the Karnala Fort. The Trek though short(around 2.5km) is arduous for the fact that the incline is very steep. Climbing the steep rocky(big boulders) path is quite challenging if you are not in a fit shape. Also I would recommend wearing only hiking shoes and carrying plenty of water. There are shaded rest stops at regular intervals on the trail. Also the views from the fort area at the summit and trail are quite good. The fort area is quite small and won't take much time to explore. Also you will see lots of monkeys and butter flys on the trail. I would recommend the Trek if you have ample time and don't mind a challenge. Time taken for the trail : 4Hrs (I was traveling with a group and we were halting at regular intervals to click pictures and take rest.) Time to start the Trek: Ideally 8:00am or even before. Food: There is canteen at the start of the trail for the fort. I ordered poha which was amazing. I also had kokum sherbet. Other items being served were bata-wada, bhaji, misal pav, maggi, veg/nonveg thali, tea,coffee. Also the prices are inexpensive. Washrooms : There are washrooms at the start of the trail. Also there are drinking water purifiers to refill your bottles.

A place to visit early in the morning to see birds. The best views are from the waterfall and the karnala fort. It's a long trek. Make sure to pack water and some snacks. Note: They charge you for the plastic which you carry, a deposit of 100 rs is taken. Make sure to come back before 5 pm to collect it otherwise it goes in their pockets . Charges at the sanctuary. Entry Fees is 60 for the adults Child 30 Rs. PS: in the name of sanctuary you will find very rare birds. Once you visit let me know your thoughts as well.

Serene greenery during monsoons makes this place a heaven. With small water falls and streams all around, it is fun to visit in the rains. The trek to the top of the Karnala Fort is a bit difficult and slippery but a great view from the top.

Recently I did my Monsoon Trek at Karnala Fort. The climate was amazing at the top of the fort. Ascend took somewhere around 2 hours for us while getting down took us less than 2 hours but it was quite thrilling as the way was completely wet resulting in muddy surfaces which made our descend experience more challenging. In between was able to watch some variety of birds as a part of Karnala Bird Sanctuary. This spot is definitely a MUST VISIT spot during monsoon.

It's really good place to spent your time between nature, it's quite near from Panvel and its convenient to go by road. You will get snacks and food in the Sanctuary. Plastic are not allowed. You may enjoy forest trails, Bird Watching, Springs in Monsoon and Fort if you love to track.

The place is awesome, but do plan it well if you wish to climb the mountain. The biggest joke is that there are no such birds as you would expect. Hardly some birds which you would have seen already. The canteens inside the sanctuary are pathetic. Bring your own food and energy drinks in your own steel bottles and utensils because packed food is not allowed at the entrance. It takes about 2.5 hours or more to reach the top of the hill. Once you reach the top, the view is amazing. Also, wear spike boots as due to slippery, many people risk injuries. I myself fell badly on my back, but thankfully my backpack saved me.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a Karnala fort and bird sanctuary, and I must say it was an enchanting experience. Nestled amidst breathtaking natural surroundings, the sanctuary offered experience for both bird lovers and those seeking solace in nature's embrace. The sanctuary's location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, added to its charm. The lush greenery, towering trees, and the symphony of birdsong created an atmosphere. We felt like this was much needed time from the demands of everyday life. They also have homely food restaurant when you enter in sanctuary. We enjoyed good meal after long trek there. Restrooms: Available Parking: Paid Tickets: required (can be purchased on gate) Timing: closing time 5pm Note: you will not get water or food on top like other forts you need to carry it.however, you can get water and food in restaurants situated below.
