Beautiful in Monsoon and Winter. Tough. You have to trek more than 2 hrs to reach the peak. You can get food at the top as there is a family who stays there. You can have tea, breakfast or meal. Plastic is totally banned at fort. At the peak, a beautiful well called "Kavechi Vihir" You can step down in the beautiful well. Note. Must hire local guide as there is huge jungle.
Had a wonderful experience at Kamalgad fort. We started the trek at around 12 and reached the fort around 2.15 pm and while descending it took us half the time. The trek path is narrow and their are arrows and ribbons on the path for directions. Locals at the top provide the food which was really tasty. The fort is surrounded by water from all sides as the dams are nearby which makes the view from the top superb. Trek in group is recommended.
2 routes take up the fort, kondivali village route- tough route take 2.30mins and chandane village take 1.30mins. Beautiful panaromic views of panchagani mahabaleshwar hillstations and dhom dam reservoir to one side of the fort and koleshwar, kenjalgad, raireshwar to another side. Fort is located in the forest. Nothing much to see just a step well which is geological wonder carved in volcanic erupted rocks, it is 40-60ft deep inside.
This is a nice trek after you have done few beginners trek. Elevation of the profile is around 600 m and total trek distance is approx 10 kms to and from. One will complete the trek in approx 5 hours. Please note you will not find anyone during the trek. Place is bit isolated. It's advised you go with some group or take a guide. Trek starts from base village Tupewadi. It can be done during day time. Many parts of the trek is covered with trees. Some 2-3 kms road patch is very good before Tupewadi village. Overall nice experience.
"Kamalgad Fort" is an adventure and Full of Forest Trekking journey. Very Beautiful view from Up of the fort, You can see Rayreshwar Fort, Kenjalgad Fort, and Navara Navri Shikar. Also Beautiful Dom dam water view. One of the most beautiful things is " Kavechi Vihir". Incredibly View from inside this. Before going here first find out the best route to go up. We were lost in the forest. So take a guide from local people. At a top of the Mountain, one family is living. They provide you with water, Lemon juice, Buttermilk at a very cheap price.
Less crowded and serene place to view dams and Krishna Valley There is nothing much on fort but once you reach on top then you'll mesmerized with breathtaking view. There is a home on foot of Balekilla on fort. At the entry point from Vasote village there is water source too. This fort is situated at 4000 ft height from sea level. About route - If you start from Vasole village base then there is last home at base. Trekking starts with this place then you will have to follow arrows drawn on entire path may it on stone, trees. There is 1.5 hrs of Trekking effort for intermediate level trekker to reach fort. Once you reach Kanifnath temple then consider you reached the fort. Plain area will start, walk for another 15 mins walk then there is one home and farm land. Take right turn alongside of that home. Another patch of dense forest will start till base of Balekilla.
Thrilling experience! We went through Vasole marg, started our trek at 9 a.m. One must be very cautious while choosing the routes. Although the trails are marked with arrow. IMP- We took the wrong way and that was a big mistake. Don't take the WATERFALL route...I'll not recommend this route to beginners. waterfall route can only be done by experienced trekkers, there'll come some tough patches where you'll have to take some risk(big risk). We finally had to climb another hard patch to join our way to regular route. Free advice: always take left you are confused and if there's no marked direction. But overall I do not regret the WRONG TURN lol. It was fun. It took us 6 7 hrs P.s: if you follow marked directions you'll resch on top within 2 hr max. Trek difficulty is easy if you are a regular trekker.
This is a well at kamalgad known as Geruchi or Kavechi Vihir..It has hole in between the two naturally formed rocks which is 20-25 feet deep and it has 50 steps which are 40 - 50 ft wide. The sides of the well which we were formed by natural rocks was reported to contain recesses in which criminals were placed in british government period in India but it is not sure as there is water in rainy season and lot of moisture as well come down..Some reports say that this hole might be formed due to geru(red stone)which is plentiful in this region.
