Kallialay Surf School - Surf school in Puducherry - Villupuram, India

I took intermediate surfing lessons from Kallialay Surf School and every single rupee spent was totally worth it. I had 3 years of bad habits and incorrect surfing form that Juan helped me break out of. My surfing got smoother over the source of a week and I caught more waves than I have ever in a surf session. I think I have finally broken out of the beginner barrier into intermediate zone (and on a hardboard) after a hundred surfing sessions, all thanks to Juan. Some of the things Juan fixed for me were - the position of my toes on the board, sliding while popping up instead of climbing, the angle and position on my hands on the board, the angle and form of my hands while paddling and the disciple of looking at the wave - and most importantly WHY all of those things were important. He explained the physics of surfing with good form vs bad form and I instantly knew why some lessons I got from other surf instructors in other parts of the world were totally incorrect. I would fully recommend anyone who seriously wants to progress in their surfing to come to Kallialay. I mean, sure, there are many surf schools that will teach you how to get on a board and ride the waves that catch you to the shore, but at Kallialay you could learn how to catch and control your own wave instead of being caught by one by luck.

This was my first surfing experience and it couldn't have been better. All the instructors are observant, give valid feedback and most of all- they make it quite a bit of fun! In just 4 lessons, I noticed an improvement and that's because of Kallialay's adaptative teaching style. Can't wait to be back

I did surfing for the first time in my life, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences. All the coaches at kallialay Surf School are experienced and humble. I did 5 days course here, and the time I spent surfing was the best in my overall trip. I used to look forward every day for the surf session. If you are traveling to auroville and pondicherry, I highly recommend surfing at kallialay Surf School. Best instructor, best crowd and best learning. Have fun

Highly recommended. The owner, Samay, and the teachers are friendly, patient, and motivating. I took one beginner surfing lesson. I feel as if I learnt a lot for the amount of time I spent. They have 90 minute sessions for reasonable rates if you are interested in exploring this sport. I was provided with all the necessary equipment before the lesson and the basic theory of surfing was also taught to me before starting. Warning: It's not for the faint hearted. Even though they teach you in the easiest way possible the water does not take it easy on you. You will fall down multiple times and there is a high chance the wet sand will bruise you. P.S. - You won't have access to a private shower so be ready to go back to your accommodation for a proper cleanup.

As a surfer from Australia travelling around India, it was an unexpected treat to find fun waves and such good gear near Pondicherry and Auroville. Kallialay is run by Juan, an excellent surfer with a smooth style. Kallialay has good quiver of boards to choose from and I rented a 5'6 EPS with lots of volume. It was well suited to the point break, which had pushy 2-3 foot waves that worked consistently for a full week. Even when the wind was onshore and the waves looked a bit mushy, they were still great fun, with sections that connected all the way to the beach and allowed at least three good turns - sometimes more. When the wind died down or turned offshore, the waves walled up nicely, even with occasional little tube sections. I was there in the off-season, so I would love to see what it's like when the waves a really pumping! As well as the local point break, Juan also took me to a great beach break in Pondicherry. He's an excellent instructor, really knows his stuff, and the set-up at Kallialay is perfect, with everything you need and a board to suit all surfers. I watched their approach to beginners lessons and it was 100%. You could not ask for a better surf school, wherever you are in the world. I would recommend to anyone, whether for lessons or just renting gear, like I did. Thanks, Juan for a wonderful experience!

I took a 5 day course with Kallialay Surf School. The coaches are very Patient and Helpfull all necessary equipments provided. I had a Great time and Recommend this place to whoever is looking to Learn Surfing

I have been learning with Kallialay since 2019 and this is the best surfing school and location I found in India after learning to surf in Kovalam and Varkala in Kerela, Mahabalipuram and Vizag. Great place for beginners to start with. The instructors are great, Juan being the best of them. Though you'll find other surf schools in the vicinity at a lesser price, you'll not get the level of training which Kallialay provides.If you are thinking of surfing, think Kallialay

The only attraction at serenity beach i would say, Kallialay surf school has carved a niche for itself by providing world class lessons at a location not primarily renowned for surfing. The instructors offer world class lessons, pin point errors and offer corrective measures to remedy improper technique. Things get a lot more fun when you enter the deep. And that imo would only happen if you've been able to show some progress over the course of time you'd stayed at the school. You'd also be lucky to gain from the wealth of experience of Juan if you happen to surf with him Sometimes the smallest of corrections can have profound impact on the way you execute the act. Also had the privilege to be instructed by yash for a few classes, really liked the tips he shared to avoid nosedives while attempting pop ups Would surely like to return to the place when time and situation permits. Would really recommend the school for first timers who wish to get introduced to the sport.
