Kali Mata Temple - Hindu temple in Sonipat - Sonipat, India

Nice divine and very old temple of Ma Kali. Very much crowdy in these days due to navratra. Very well managed. So much space in the surroundings. It is on the famous Ram Lila maidaan. On every Sharad navratra Ram Lila is organised here. Road on which it is situated i.e. Kami Road is very much crowdy and not in good situation. Use two to go there. Drinking water is also there. You feel good in the temple.

Today it has been renovated into a beautiful temple. But, if the history is correct, (5000 years old) it is one of the critical point of exploration for Mahabharata historians.

Sonipat has a very old history. The name of Sonipat has even been mentioned in the period of Mahabharata. As mentioned in Mahabharata, the Sonipat was one of the five villages which had been asked by Pandavas from Kauravas. The decline of this demand of Pandavas lead to the battle of Mahabharat which was fought at Kurukshetra. Here, in Sonipat on Kami road i.e. in the rear of Ram Leela Ground, an ancient temple of Maa Mahakaali is situated which is said to be around 6000 years old. Is is also said that Pandavas, before going for battle at Kurukshetra, had prayed here and took the blessings of Maa Kaali for their victory. The Pandavas had also constructed a well near this temple which is known as Pandva's Well. Also, there used to be a prayer spot (Maadhi) of Chandi Maata which was re-constructed somewhere in 1377 by Lodhamal. In the temple of Maa Mahakali, an eternal flame brought from temple of Calcutta and Kalkaji, keeps on burning. It is also believed that whosoever prayes here for 40 days with pious and pure mind, gets his wishes fulfilled. The devotees, on getting their wishes fulfilled, offer garland of lemon to Maa Mahakaali. This has been a place for worship for every body of all religions and caste. Fairs are held here twice every year i.e. firstly on Sheetala Shaptmi after the Holi Festival and secondly in the Asaadh Month. During the fair, People offer the sweets made from new grain/ crops alongwith coconut, fruits and cloth (Chunri). Special Prayer is held in the temple on every Saturday. The devotees have once more in the year 2002 rennovated and constructed the temple and have given it a new look. Presently, Lala Shyam Lal Kuchhal is looking after the work of the temple.
