I visited the Kakanmath temple, a ruined 11th century Shiva temple near Sihoniya village in Morena district. It was built by the Kachchhapaghata ruler Kirttiraj in the name of his queen Kaknavati. The temple is a marvel of architecture and sculpture, with a towering shikhara and intricate carvings. The temple has a rich history and legend, and is a national protected monument. I was amazed by the beauty and grandeur of this ancient temple, and felt a sense of awe and reverence. The temple is a must-see for anyone interested in Indian culture and heritage.
A very beautiful temple situated in Modena,MP. Found in ruins this temple is now under ASI. The temple has been renovated and you can see that it has been reconstructed by placing the stones blocks on top of each other. The stone blocks are not cemented or joined by any means. A very fine example of craftsmanship from the golden days. Temple is built in Nagara style with Shikhara and Amalaka at the top. This temple is said to have been built by Bhoots - which are believed to be Gana of shiva. This place was of high importance in the olden times. There is a Shiva Linga inside which is worshipped even today. Highly recommended place to visit if you in and around Gwalior.

If i say it truly i don't have words to explain the beauty of this majestic temple. Sources say this temple was made by ghost devotee of Lord Shiva. Actually if you see ghosts didn't tried to solve the jigsaw puzzle of the temple they just match the height and place loads of stone over and above each other but seriously i can say that you will definitely going to love this place. The structure is really big and enormous lots of sculptures on the wall of the temple which was damaged by the peoples those who don't like Hindu arts but that is not the point here. If you see careful some stones are set on just edges but they are really looking beautiful and dangerous to but seriously you won't regret by going once there. Thank you

HistoryEdit The Kakanmath temple was commissioned by Kachchhapaghata ruler Kirttiraja (r. c. 1015-1035 CE).[1] This can be inferred from a Kachchhapaghata inscription found at the Sas-Bahu Temple in Gwalior. The inscription states that Kirttiraja built an extraordinary temple devoted to Parvati's lord (Shiva) at Simhapaniya (modern Sihoniya).[2][3] According to a folk legend, the temple was named "Kakanmadh" after Kakanavati or Kakanade, who was the queen of one Surajpala. The historicity of this legend is doubtful. One possibility is that the name of the temple derives from the kanak (gold) and matha (shrine).[4] Originally, the site had a temple complex, with a central temple surrounded by four subsidiary shrines. Only the ruins of the central temple stand now: its outer walls, balconies and a part of its spire have fallen. This damage probably happened during an earthquake.[5] A Sanskrit-language pillar inscription dated 1[4]50 VS (1393-94 CE) records the renovation of the Mahadeva temple (that is, Kakanmath) by one Durgaprasada.[6] A 1497 VS (1440-41 CE) pillar inscription records the visit of a pilgrim named Dekhana during the reign of Dungara (a Tomara ruler of Gwalior). It states that Dekhana was the son of Kakaka, and a resident of Nalapuragadha.[7] Now, the temple has been classified as a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).[8]
