Kailasanathar Temple - Hindu temple in Karuppadithattadai - Kanchipuram, India

It's the most beautiful temple I have seen in a long time. The outer carvings are bricks and mortar and are so beautiful that you want to embrace them. The temple looks so divine during dusk. It is a must visit. Have plenty of time at hand, there are beautiful carving at every turn. The main linga is a large size stunning piece.

Kailasanathar Temple, is a Lord Shiva temple located in Kanchipuram city. It is one of the prominent Shiva temple. Among all the prominent vaishnava temples in city, this temple is the main Shiva temple. Built in pallava period, it's a magestic and detailed art work. Temple has different forms of Shiva. Temple is currently maintained by central government. Area is fenced and kept well and neat. One should need to take an auto or car to reach. Nandi statue is situated in front of the temple. There is no ticket or parking fees. Normally less crowded. Can complete darshan in 30mins.

The Kailasanathar Temple, Kanchipuram, also referred to as the Kailasanatha temple, is a Pallava-era historic Hindu temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Dedicated to Shiva, it is one of the oldest surviving monuments in Kanchipuram.[1] It reflects a Dravidian architecture and was built about 700 CE by Narasimhavarman II with additions by Mahendravarman III.[2] A square-plan temple, it has a mukha-mandapa (entrance hall), a maha-mandapa (gathering hall) and a primary garbha-griya (sanctum) topped with a four-storey vimana. The main sanctum is surrounded by nine shrines, seven outside and two inside flanking the entrance of the sanctum, all with forms of Shiva. The outer walls of the temple's prakara (courtyard) is also surrounded by cells.

I had the opportunity to visit this temple at kanchipuram. The place is serene and calm during evening hours, the temple is lit by magnificent lights that project its beauty to the core. The sculptures inscribed on the temple walls take one to a different era.

This structure has 58 small temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in various ways. These are nested on the inner face of the high compound wall of the perimeter path. Emperor Narasimhavarman I later expanded the Pallava lands to the north, west and south of Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Kannada, expanding their capital city of Kanchipuram and building many magnificent temples. They were also known as Thiru Parameswara Vinnagaram, Vaikunta Perumal Temple and Kailasanathar Temple, AD. One of the two rare examples of temple architecture dates to 640-730. Kailasanatha Temple was built between the years 685-and 705 in Kanchi. Narasimhavarman II (Rajasinha), also known as Rajasinha Pallaveswaram, built the first architectural temple in South India. Mahendravarman III, his son, completed the front entrance and the dome (dome). Ancient temples in Mahabalipuram were made of wood or carved into stone faces in caves or rocks. Kanchipuram Kailasanathar Temple has become a model for similar temples in South India. The temple served as a haven for the kingdom's rulers during the war. The kings built a secret tunnel as an escape route which is still visible today.

It's a masterpiece of king Rajasimha Pallava. Mere words aren't enough to describe the beauty of this temple. It's has to be seen to be appreciated. Dedicate at least one hour or more to enjoy Kailasanathar temple. Well maintained grounds with restroom facility.
