Water was full when we were there the dam officials denied the visit but awesome place
The dam is located at around 60kms from Mysore. One has to exit the highway at Hunsur and drive along for over an hour. The place is very scenic. There is lush greenery around the area. Perfect time to visit is early morning or during sunset. The sunset view is mind-blowing. There is no entry to the dam to the public. One has to have a special permit to let one in at the top of the dam to get the upstream view. The place is very well maintained. There is also a small Kapileshwara temple on the downstream side of the dam. The roads leading to the dam site are narrow and in a terrible condition. However, a great experience.
Superb place.. When there is more water they won't allow the vehicles and vehicles are allowed to the locals almost all the time.. You can enjoy the dam viewpoint from the top and water when they leave and I'm updating photos and videos when there is more water.. Now the water level has decreased..
Kabini dam is a small dam situated south of HD Kote. You won't be allowed to go on top of the dam. There are no eateries nearby. So plan your visit accordingly. The place itself is serene and quiet. A nice to enjoy calmness away from city.
Kabini dam is not allowed for tourists but if you drive straight down 15kms ahead of kabini dam... an excellent place for nature lovers you will reach the dead-end back water where boating is available..boat available for transporting people on the other side of village people and fishing ( on request you can experience boat ride but life jacket is not available with them)...
It was a drizzling morning. The weather there was beautiful. We were are not allowed to drive on the dam because we were not VIP. In fact we weren't even allowed to walk. But leaving all those things just go there and enjoy the beauty of mother earth. If you are lucky you can also see elephants and other animals coming to the reservoir to drink water.
As it is hyped this place not that much big to see, they wont allow to go top of the dam. To reach this place you need to roam aroud 10km to see that to it is a small dam with less amount of storagablilty. So plan accordingly to go to the spot. Happt holidays.
