Junagarh Fort - Historical place in Bikaner - Bikaner, India

A well-preserved historical fortress with available guides upon ticket purchase. Allocate around 1.5 hours for a comprehensive exploration and photography session. Adjacent museum features artifacts and attire from the era, but it's optional and can be omitted.

Excellent spot for history lovers and art aficionados. Place is well-preserved. The gold inlay work is something to be seen. Open spaces, courts, intricate lattice work, armoury, even a World war I fighter plane etc gives a glimpse to the Royal opulence of those times. There's a water-cooling system to cool the place at one spot. One room is painted to look like cloudy sky and lightning striking for the royal kids to feel rain and thunder as Bikaner doesn't have much showers. Access is controlled by ticketing system. Guide is a must but the authorities provide it; you can have your private guide as well. Vehicles can be parked inside.

This is the best place to visit in Bikaner. This is a royal Fort with excellent carving of Marbels and sculpture with gold. Some part of this hot husband converted to museum and open for general visitors. This museum also provide guides with its entry tickets of rupees 100. Worth visiting this place as history speaks here itself.

The fascinating Junagarh fort was constructed by Raja Rai Singh, between 1588 -1593 AD. He was the sixth ruler of Binaker who ruled here from 1571 to 1611 AD. The supervision of the construction of the fort complex was done by Karan Chand, Raja Rai Singh's Prime Minister. The construction of Junagarh fort had started on 30th January 1589 and was completed on 17th February in the same year. Architectural layout of Junagarh Fort Bounded by a moat, Junagarh fort has an intimidating structure. The palace complex houses some wonderful structures in its boundaries. Palaces in marble and red sandstone make up for a wonderful collection of kiosks, windows, balconies and courtyards that look stunning. Junagarh fort complex has two entrance and has a total of 986 long walls that have 37 bastions. There are a total of 37 palaces, along with a number of pavilions and temples. One of the highlights of the architecture of Junagarh fort is its stone carving with an excellent quality. Number of rooms of the palace have paintings and decorations that were done in traditional style. Suraj Pol and Daulat Pol are two main gates of the fort. Suraj Pol or the sun gate was east facing and was the main gate of the fort complex. The historical Daulat Pol has the handprints of the royal ladies who had committed sati along with the pyres of their deceased husbands, at the Sati Stambh. Chand Pol, Karan Pol and Fatech Pol were the other inner gates. The Zenana or the latest quarters are extremely lavish and are a display of unique artistic skill. While they royal ladies were an integral part of the household, they were not really a part of the matters of the state. They used carved stone screens for interaction with others. These screens can be seen displayed here. Do not miss noticing the mirror work, paintings, and lacquer work. The minarets, columns, arches and pavilions are gigantic and imposing.

Junagarh = the old fort. This used to be the fort used by the royal family of Bikaner before moving out to the new one (Lalgarh). The best part here is, they offer free guide service to each tourist. They group you and send a guide along with you. The guides are very professional and friendly. They explain to you the history very nicely. Loved this fort. It showcases the rich heritage of the Rajasthani rulers.

This fort is magnificent with its colours and floral patterns on the interior walls. Hand painted doors, the colour variation on the walls looks absolutely gorgeous .

The palace was not crowded and shows details of Bikaner royal family and kings, weapon's etc. need 1.5 hours for a good visit. You can also get guides at extra cost. No eatables allowed or available inside. Extra cost for videography. Restrooms are outside of palace and in good condition. You can get a view of European and Rajasthani design of buildings.
