Jhanjharpur Kamla River Railway bridge - Featured Reviews (144)
The Kamala originates from Churia Range near Maithan which is near Sindhuli Gadhi in Sindhuli District of Nepal at an elevation of 1,200 metres (3,900 ft).[1][2] It flows in a southerly direction crossing Kamala Khoj area and after passing through a gorge above Chauphat it flows into the terai area of Nepal at Chisapani.[2] The Kamala forms the border between Siraha and Dhanusa districts in the terai. During the monsoon the river swells up and thus causes devastating river bank erosion.[3] Tao River and Baijnath Khola River merges with Kamala at Maini[4] It enters Indian territory in Madhubani district in Bihar, 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) upstream of Jainagar. A barrage known as Kamala barrage has been constructed by the State Government near Jainagar. It joins the river Kareh (Bagmati) at Badlaghat in Khagaria district[1] and the combined stream flows into the Koshi nearby. While one of its branches leads to the Bagmati another leads to the Kosi.[4] In the lower reaches it follows the course of the Balan and is therefore also known as Kamala-Balan.[2] TributariesEdit
One by one, the vehicles cross the "sorrow of north Bihar". As the sorrowful Kamla Balan--known for its copious floods--flows precariously underneath, the 10ft-wide bridge wilts under an uneasy distinction. In a state that has brimmed with tragedy and sorrow, it is another disaster waiting to happen.
Now this bridge is converted in road bridge only. This bridge was built before the independence of India on Kamla river (Kamal river is a tributaries of Koshi river). Local historians says that over this bridge all types of means of transportation pass like Tanga, Bull cart, train, bus, truck, Car, Bicycle, Cycle, etc. In the time of meter gauge of railways this bridge is used for both Railways and Roadways. But after the broad gauge came this bridge was converted into Roadways only. From last 10 years this bridge is only for small vehicles not for large and heavy vehicles. This bridge is near 100 years old.
One of the oldest bridge made by brithishers... It was only bridge in whole world where trains, buses, trucks, bikes, taxi, etc runs on single bridge. That means it is single deckered... But this bridge get very old and passing of trains, trucks and some heavy vehicles from this bridge is prohibited... But few small vehicles are allowed here... Below this bridge every Year Chhath pooja is celebrated... Every year,Many statues of Various Gods also get immersed here... Overall it is oldest bridge that i liked ever...
Very old
A bridge over The Kamla river . It's a Asia fame bridge after a year becoz both the rail and bus go through the same path.
However this bridge is not in a good condition now but it's amazing bcoz both train & rest vehicles used to run on the single bridge.
The bridge is totally damage and it is very dangerous infact all the busses change there route to go madhepur lachknour etc.
