Jauhar Place - Memorial park in Chittorgarh - Chittorgarh, India

Chittorgarh fort witnessed Johar Brata thrice in the history, when the brave women of Chittorgarh sacrificed their lives in the burning pyres to keep their honor from the attackers. The Johar Kund is now completely filled-up and maintained as a barricaded ground with green grass. The adjacent display board describes the history of Johar. This historical place reminds the bravery and sacrifice of Rajput women.

As per the historical records, this is the place where Rani Padmini and other Rajput women committed mass suicide or Johor by jumping into flames to escape from the mishandling by military of Mahmud Khilji. The place was buried and a memory garden is created above it. The incident is well detailed in texts and depicted in movies.

Chittorgarh, often referred to as Chittaurgarh, is a place steeped in history, where tales of valor and sacrifice have been etched into the very stones of its imposing fort. Among the most poignant of these stories are the three occurrences of Jauhar that unfolded within the fort's formidable walls in 1303, 1535, and 1568 CE.

Johar Place is supposedly the place where an act of mass self immolation took place during the reign of Ratnasimha. According to the epic poem, Padmavat, his defeat against the invading Delhi Sultanate trigger the suicides of Queen Padmini and the women of the town to avoid capture and enslavement. There's not much to look at and it's really just a large patch of grass beside Vijay Stambha.

It is a beautiful sec nic view inside chitorgarh fort....it is the largest fort in India and there are around no of places but Rani padmavati palace and johar place is best of them all.There is a tower name Vijay stambh...it has 7 floors..

This is a historic place. After roaming here, it is known that the Rajput people had a sense of bravery, courage and security towards the country. Rani Padmavati was burnt alive along with other sixteen hundred women and all the Rajput warriors were killed during the open fight of the fort. Allauddin Khilji got nothing except ashes.

Located just behind the VijayaStambha. Place where Rani Padmini and other Rajputh women committed mass suicide by jumping into flames to escape from Khilji sena. But now this place was buried and they made like some garden here.... Still my heart felt respect for them by while watching this place.... #RajputGlory
