JATINDAS STATUE - Historical landmark in Kolkata - 24 Paraganas North, India

Jatindra Nath Das (Bengali: ytiindrnaath daas); 27 October 1904 - 13 September 1929), also known as Jatin Das, was an Indian independence activist and revolutionary. He died in Lahore jail after a 63-day hunger strike. Jatindra Das was born in 1904 in family at Calcutta. He passed the matriculation and intermediate examinations in the First Division. He joined the Anushilan Samiti, a revolutionary group in Bengal, and also participated in Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement in 1921, aged 17.[citation needed] In November 1925, while studying for a B.A. at Bangabasi College in Calcutta, Das was arrested for his political activities and was imprisoned at the jail in Mymensingh. While interned there, he went on a hunger strike to protest the ill-treatment meted out to the political prisoners. After fasting for twenty days, the jail's superintendent apologised and he gave up the fast. Sachindra Nath Sanyal taught him how to make bombs.[1] On 14 June 1929 he was arrested for revolutionary activities and was imprisoned in Lahore jail to be tried under the supplementary Lahore Conspiracy Case.

A historic and very popular place. Its also known as Hazra. The bus and metro both services are available here. There are a lots of fruit shops near the metro gate. The flyover near this gives shade in the summer. The road here is a bit busy and the traffic polices are very much helpful here. There are ladies traffic police room also here.

Amazing place where people meet for having tiffin.There is a popular tea stall.Most of the students of Belgharia gather here for refreshing their minds and have tiffin in the morning and evening.

A favourite spot for local guys as well as the multitude of hostellers to assemble and to have chit chats. The tea stalls, ice cream corners, snacks centres serve as refreshment providers. It is a popular landmark of Belghoria as well. The statue and its surroundings are recently furnished and new led lights are installed. The place looks cleaner than before.

Tea stalls, cyber cafe, hotel for lunch and dinner, bicycle repair shop, mobile recharge store, grocery shop, cultural hall all are located within 50 metre of the statue. The statue is located near to the belgharia railway station. The place is well connected by auto and rickshaws.
