Jaigad Fort is a coastal fortification that is located at the tip of a peninsula in Jaigad, Ratnagiri District at a distance of 14 km from the temple town of Ganpatipule, in the state of Maharashtra, India. Nestled on a cliff, it overlooks a bay formed where the Shastri river enters the Arabian Sea. It has a commanding view of the bay, the nearby power plant and the open sea. A jetty port Angrey, and a lighthouse is located nearby. Although in ruins, most of the fort's outer wall and ramparts still stand. A deep moat surrounds the fort side not facing the cliff edge. In the middle of the 13 acre fort lies the palace of Kanhoji Angre, a Ganpati temple and wells to store water. It is a protected monument.
It's classic example of our ancient architecture, just 50 kms from Ratnagiri. Must visit Lord Shiva temple just behind Jindal Power plant.
Historical monument. It's in very bad condition. All internal places are not in good condition. No sign board's. No heritage information. Surrounding areas is nice. Scenic view with sea aside. State and Archaeological dept should make necessary changes.
Jaigad Fort built in 16th-century built on an area of approx 20 acres of land near Jaigad Village, approximately 20 kms from Ganpatipule, the coastal region of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Jaigad Fort, also known as the Fort of Victory. The Jaigad fort was built to keep a watch on Jaigad creek where River Shastri enters Arabian Sea. Jaigad fort was built along with Vijaygad Fort in order to protect the creek; with the Vijaygad Fort to the North and the Jaigad Fort to the South of the creek. The Jaigad fort was built by the Bijapur Sultan. The fort was caputred by Naiks of Sangameshwar. Naiks fiercely fought with the Portuguese and the Bijapur Sultan to retain the fort. The fort then came under the rule of Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Peshwas and Kanhoji Angre till 1818 and was was captured by the British during the third Anglo Maratha War.
It's an old Fort at Ratnagiri District. 14 Km from Ganpatipule. Yoy can go by Private Car, Auto etc. No entry fee. Place is very open. Structures, ruins are there. Restoration and proper maintenance is required. Very old Ganpati temple is there inside the fort. View of JSW Port, Arbian sea is wonderful from here. You can park your car at outside.
Small fortification close to ratnagiri. Nice and peaceful location. Surprised to see it is not on list under ASI maintained monuments. One beautiful old temple of Lord Ganesh is inside fort. There are remains of palace, one big water tank near temple. Good place to visit with family.
Still lot of structure available to validate how the fort was actual looks like... Very good place to visit... Must go to visit
