We can't reach near to the arch dam. When we visited there we could only see from far behind. But it's an awesome view

Idukki Arch Dam constructed across the Kuravan and Kurathi hills is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam. The Idukki Dam is situated near the Cheruthoni barrage and extents to an altitude of 550 ft with a width of 650 ft. This huge wonderful dam is a unique, fascinating site in Idukki. There is an interesting story behind the origin of the dam. It is believed that Lord Rama cursed two natives Koravan (man) and Korathi (woman) to stones for staring at Sita while she was bathing. They begged Rama for Mercy as they never stayed separate. Lord Rama then blessed them that they will stay together for the years to come.

Idukki dam makes idukki district world famous. The dam connects two hills named kuravan and kurathy. It is constructed and owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board by blocking periyar river. The dam will open for visitors only in specific time. The height and the structure of this dam makes it unique and biggest arch dam in India. It is one of the highest arch dams in Asia.

The biggest arch dam in Asia, You can visit the arch dam from cheruthoni dam entrance, the ticke charge id 25 rs for one person, the dam is under control of KSEB, no camera and mobile phone is allowed inside the dam area, you need to walk from cheruthoni dam to idukki dam about 3km, you can see elephant the beautiful view of nature from top of the dam, and Vaishali cave is the highlight of idukki dam, the cave built for getting building materials on the time of construction of the dam, and later the malayalam film Vaishali shooted in the cave, and after that the cave got the name Vaishali cave Inside the dam there's one small shop we can buy water, ice cream, chocolate etc. Must visit place in idukki And idukki dam opening time is 10am morning

Amazing view but not allowed to carry cameras or electronic gadgets..Good to walk but it is a little lengthy(6km up and down).

The Idukki Dam is a double curvature arch dam constructed across the Periyar River in a narrow gorge between two granite hills locally known as Kuravan and Kuravathi in kerala, India. At 167.68 metres, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia. It is constructed and owned by the Kerala State Electricity Board. It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station in Moolamattom, which started generating power on 4 October 1975.The dam type is a concrete, double curvature parabolic, thin arc dam. It is such a wonderful place to visit.
