The Cafe Monal has a great spot beside the Dussehra Grounds and a permanent tambola stall nearby. While enjoying your meal, you can hear and see an emcee calling out numbers in traditionally cliched, politically incorrect style. Sample this "two fat ladies 88". Since it was lunchtime, I ordered a yellow dal with roti, kheer for desser and a masala chai as an aperitif. The masala chai was nice and hot as I like it. The plain dal was non-spicy, just as I like it. The kheer was a disappointment. It was basically boiled rice dumped in milk!
If in Kullu you MUST visit cafe Monal for a feel of the old kullu and order a chole bhature
Good food and one can definitely walk in for a tea and lunch. Not very open atmosphere. Just fine for sitting.
