The temple area is neat, clean and well maintained. The beautiful garden landscape with adjoining lake is a good place to enjoy nature and pass time with family. It can be visited at any time of the year and while commuting from Bangalore, you can find some good restaurants for breakfast or lunch.

Hoysaleshvara Temple is a well maintained ancient Shiva temple with great craftsmanship on display. The overall area is very neatly kept and properly taken care of by the Archeological Survey of India. The grounds around the temple are quite sizable and ideal to walk around. This temple is definitely a must visit historical spot in this region. Parking is available right in front of the entrance.
A marvel of Hindu architecture. Hoysaleshwara (dedicated to Shiva) is the largest of three temples now inducted into UNESCO world heritage sites. The number of sculptures on display on outer wall beggars belief. There are two beautiful nandi statues as well. The temple complex was abandoned for centuries and unfortunately some ignorant people have defaced the statues. One of the nandi has deep etching marks. Note that both shivling in the inner shrine is worshipped. The temple and the compound is managed by ASI and photography is allowed at every place but the sanctum. Unfortunately, the motorcycle parking is not well managed. Even though they charge money you would often find someone's bike parked right behind yours. I visited the temple early in the morning from Bangalore and had to take help from kind locals to extract by bike from that mess. The parking guy was nowhere to be found. There is a general lack of professional management unlike the Keshava temple in Belur and Somnathpura. Still, it was an experience of a lifetime. I plan to visit again to see other Hoysala temples in the locality.
