Hotel Tarun Niketan (Pice Hotel) - Bengali restaurant in Kolkata - Kolkata, India

Almost all the dishes were delicious. Well almost all. Those which were recommended by our cheerful waiter were all great. Special mention to the bhetki fish batter fry - awesome. It was oozing quality. Kata chorchori (for the uninitiated this is a mixed veg hochpoch dish mixed with bish bones - a true homely dish albeit a tad too rich than how this is cooked at home. But nevertheless very tasty). The availability (and off course the taste and quality) of the tel ilish (again a quintessential bengali household preparation) just won us over. It was too good. The mutton curry again was perfect. Fully balanced (rich yet thin gravy) All in all we had great food. It is not super cheap for a pice hotel. But at the same time at this day and age of content creators they are making some money out of the new found identity and outreach among the Gen-Z by serving food that can easily rival some of the best 'bengali themed' restaurant sans the their decor. But pice hotel is for such no non-sense minimalist experience. So all absolutely justified. What we didn't like were some of the fry items other than the fish batter fry off course. Our total bill was Rs 1700.

Average food and below average ambiance/comfort. We felt this place is overhyped by YouTube vloggers. There is no dearth of good Bengali food around, and this place charges top prices in a decaying cramped environment with average food. We ordered moong dal (good), fish egg bora (ok), gourd flower bora (bad, full of besan), chechra (bad), katla (ok), chital (overpriced at Rs 600), goat meat (below average - tough, stringy meat @ Rs 350). We suggest giving it a miss, unless you want to be part of the hype.

This place is situated near Rashbihar Avenue just 200 meters away from kalighat metro station towards Lake Mall. Though It's a pice hotel but the prices are little bit high & taste wise for me it's little bit spicy, which wasn't good for my taste buds but good for those people who like spicy food. But fish batter fry & stuffed sweet bitter gourd fry were really nice. Even they serve few dishes of shutki mach ( dry fish ).

Authentic Bengali food restaurant, in a vintage looking restaurant, giving a vintage Bengali feeling atmosphere. Food served on Banana leaves. We had Bhetki paturi, which didn't have the expected acridity of mustard, but was tasty none the less. Also had giant shrimp curry, which had a generic fish curry flavour but the shrimp itself was cooked well. We had the food during Durga Puja peek demand hours. It felt like some time and cost cutting methods were applied which creates the difference between Great Bengali food and Mediocre Bengali food. I would still recommend this place for a different type of dining experience than the usual posh restaurants that are so widely available.

Common people cannot pay the price of this food But if you can pay, the food here is really good. I think the price is a bit high Chicken Two leg pieces chicken and potato Rs- 180/- But the chicken gravy was not that full of taste as per its price chutney A small bowl of chutney costs RS- 50/- You must be able to understand the price of other foods by looking at their prices

Excellent service by Rabi da, all the food items were served hot and fresh but taste could have been much better. All we ordered was - Rice Dal Jhinge Aloo Posto Aloo Bhaja Macher Dimer Bora Chingri Malai Curry Shorshe Pabda Mutton Curry Khejur Amsatta Chutney

It's just a hype restaurant, and all the items are overpriced as the quantity you have seen in the picture . I have been charged 490/- rupees for this. I will surely next time go to kasturi or any other Bengali restaurant. I didn't go there The server had an attitude on their face . I am sure this outlet will be shut down in a few years, if they do not rectify their price or the quantity, Now talking about the taste , very average taste. Not full authentic Bengali food they make. You can surely understand that all food items are made by any non Bengali cook. THEY ARE JUST LOOTING MONEY FROM CUSTOMER. VERY DISAPPOINTED, FOR MY FIRST VISITING. THE ITEMS ARE - RICE MOONG DAL JHUR JHURE ALOO BHAJA JHIGE ALOO POSTO BORAL FISH. - very small pc AAM CHATNEY PAPAD WATER BOTTLE LEMON WEDGES 490/-. TASTE ARE BELOW AVERAGE. DON'T GO THEIR FOR LOOS OR WASTE YOUR MONEY.

It's 105 years old Pice Hotel that has retained the old school vibe of Calcutta till date. Its roof is still structured on bamboo sticks and they curate according to AUTHENTIC PICE SYSTEM. Also Tarun Niketan prepares their every dish without using Onion except for Mutton, Egg Curry and Fish Kalia. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the adda here in Tarun Niketan.
