Hotel Rumtek Dzong - Hotel in Rumtek - East District, India

This hotel is located just opposite to Shanti View point. You can see entire Gangtok from room balconies. Very peaceful location and only 4kms away from Rumtek monastery. This also means it is devoid of any typical tourist activities after sunset. No possibility of (window) shopping! We were a big group hence did not find it challenging, but small groups/families may find it too quiet in the evening. Service was excellent. Munmun madam and team were very caring and humble. Food was very good too. Since it is far off from market, suggest to discuss about menu and food preferences well in advance. One major issue is power cut (not controllable by hotel). We faced frequent power cuts. If it rains, expect lights to go off. They have a generator and tried best to ensure one geyser runs at a time. Overall very good and peaceful location. If you want a relaxing time away from the hustle, this hotel is a very good choice. They also helped us with references for cab and stay options in Lachung, which worked very well for us! Overall rating is 4.5 for me. Only deduction being for the frequent for power cuts.

The location of this Hotel is 4km away from the Rumtek Monastery with a view of the entire Gangtok city from the windows. If you want to spend a day or two a bit away from Gangtok but not too far, this is one of the best options considering it's location, price, food and staff behaviour. Room was decent with a balcony and the food was fantastic specifically the Sandwiches. Overall we had a nice experience.

Very poor service. Staffs are very polite they will smile at you all day but won't provide water or food. There's no water in the bathroom for three days and all they do is smile at you. So if you want to pay for that smile you can come here. But please remember you won't get any service

Great location, really pleasant. The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting rumtek.

I spent a couple of days in this beautiful hotel. My family enjoyed their stay here. Below are the pros and cons of this place: Pros: 1. The manager is very receptive and helpful. 2. All the staffs are polite and helpful. 3. Food is exceptional to say the least. 4. The location of the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of town which particularly excites me. 5. The property itself is really well built and maintained. 6. We lived in the suite and it is perfect for a couple. 7. I liked the use of extensive wood in furnitures and doors/windows and also the artificial wooden floor. 8. The hotel is located exactly at a view point - Shanti view point. Cons: 1. The power is not stable and it fluctuates quite often which makes electrical appliances i.e water heater useless most of the time. 2. It is slightly difficult to reach the hotel as it is around 12 KMS away from City of Gangtok and the roads are also not yet built up completely. 3. The hotel is slightly understaffed which could potentially be a difficulty if they have more guests to take care of. 4. One must have their personal vehicle to move around easily. Overall I would recommend this hotel to people who are willing to stay away from the city and experience the nature closely.
