Hotel Karthik - South Indian restaurant in Mangaluru - Dakshina Kannada, India

Hotel Karthik is one of the oldest hotel (lodge) and restaurant in the city, located in the main road, Kottara. In the restaurant, Masal dosa, Benne Masal Dosa, plain dosa, idly, Vada, curd vada, bonda and many other items are available. Taste is ok level. I dont know about local people. but for outsiders Coconut chutney is not good. it was tasteless. very less salt, less spicy. Katti chutney we asked. That is ok. Dosas are ok level. Bondas are very oily. I had Mangalore bun. That was good. Tea also not good. You can try Curd Vada. The curd was good. vada ok level. Service is good. good people. The dinning area is enough spacious. They are having lodging facility in first and second flood. Rooms are ok. For medium budget, it is good choice. For safety, it is good. one of my local friend he said. Parking: Roadside

It's a old and famous shop in that area. It's a very famous for its food taste. Food is nice. Only u will get tiffin on morning and evening. No lunch and dinner available. Room are small but clean. Different room option available including AC rooms. Costing in budget.

One of the best dosa spots in Mangalore. Ofcourse this is not to be compared to the Bangalore dosas. My favourite was the thuppa dosa and the katti chutney. The belle masala dosa was also good, so was the special coffee. Cleanliness was average. It's an old hotel and can't expect much of an ambience. However they have a special section reserved for family and ladies

Tried their Tuppa Dosa and K Tea latte here. The ghee dosa felt heavy and finishing 1 dosa was itself enough. The K-Tea latte was different, in a good way. The restaurant has limited Non-AC seating. Staffs were friendly. Overall a decent experience.

Wanted to try their butter masala dosa as I had heard a lot about it.. It didn't disappoint me.. Tasted yum. Tried uddina vada didn't cook in the middle. Idli was good though.

Breakfast Pulao and KT is tasty. Service is quick. Parking is limited. Pocket friendly hotel.

Tried the famous "K-tea" which was very average. Would suggest trying it from the actual place which is in Kalladka. Also ordered the Masala dosa which was nice. If you don't want the K-tea, you can also order for the normal tea. The seating area is big. The restraunt is attached to a hotel above it. The service was very quick and the staff were very friendly

Kalladka Tea, which is very famous in the Kalladka junction on NH 48 where one should not miss the tea has been replicated all along the southern coast of Karnataka. When in Mangalore and you need to taste this tea, Hotel Karthik is the best place as I have heard. Hotel Karthik is also famous for their Benne Masala Dose, the Bangalorean in me found it just average. Whereas mind-blown for the Kalladka Tea or K Tea. K Tea is done by playing with the viscosity of Tea decoction, thick milk and froth. Thick milk is added in the bottom, then froth is made freshly by pouring the milk up and down, this is added abundantly, the froth here is very thin. Tea decoction is poured in slowly where it does not go deep into the base of the milk, it stays where the milk starts. The decoction is now sandwiched between froth and milk, this wobbly action is such a treat to watch and what a rare delicacy this is. One has to mix and drink this K Tea..
