Hotel Cecil - Hotel in Kolkata - Kolkata, India

A very nice hotel in a good location. The hotel management and staff are very kind and helpful. They do a great job at making one fall in love with Kolkata. Their hospitality is one of the best that we experienced so far in India. They wrote down a plan for us to cover Kolkata city in two days time. This is also the only hotel that offered us take away sandwiches for breakfast at an early check-out of 6.30 a.m. Also, make sure you try their Bengali special dinner options :)

Nice little hotel in a central location. Stylishly furnished and with some amenities not always common in India, such as air conditioning, hot shower water, fridge. Also the staff is very helpful.

Excellent service and lovely rooms. For such a reasonably priced hotel this place has really charming ambiance and is immaculately well kept. I was was also extremely impressed my room had a small fridge and the staff were always ready to assist us. Great area too.

Had a very bad experience staying in hotel Cecil. I had taken my parents and had a terrible time there. Rooms are too tiny to move.The so called Manager with spectacles is rude and confused and extremely impolite. Except for the security guard and the bell boy nothing is good about this hotel. I would highly recommend to think twice before staying.

Update 26 June 2023 Surprise, surprise! Kudos to the management for taking the earlier review seriously. The Cecil is a quaint budget hotel in central Kolkata. Revisiting Kolkata and decided to stay in Cecil. They have fixed up all the problems and the rooms have been well done up. The young owner Mr Bhowmik was there, and explained their limitations. Loved their effort. The approach issues remain and there's still no lift, which makes the steep staircase difficult for the elderly, or those with knee problems. But that's not in their control. we visited many attractions, we were heading to the hotel that we made a reservation. When I saw the entrance of the hotel, I was surprised at first, and when we went inside of the hotel, I was surprised again. For two days, I was very impressed and I thought a lot in positive ways. I always had a desire to visit again and I wanted to get a hotel like that inn. It was the first time for me to know what I want to become. The trip to the hotel was totally changed my life and my dream. When we arrived at the hotel, a man, who looked a staff, did valet parking service for us, and we moved to the desk to get a card key. We certainly checked in and we followed the guide of one of the employees. He let my family get in a cart, and he guided us to our room where we reserved before we came here.

It was the strangest situation i have ever experienced in a hotel. We ve made a reservation by Agoda few days ealier and when we came to the hotel we heard that our reservation was cancelled. We came around 6 pm and Agoda informed us about cancellation 20 minutes before we arrived to Hotel Cecil (we didnt read it, we were in the taxi then). So after a long journey we had to look for another hotel for short notice. Receptionist was nice but it didnt helped to our disappointment. We didnt see the room but staircase looks a lot worse than at the pictures

I was very happy with the room and their service. Rooms are small but good for couples. I checked in before without any hassle.
