For someone who is bought up in this city the first obvious answer for the question "who created Bangalore?" Is Kempegowda. But thanks to some epigraphist and citizen driven groups from the city we now have a proof of Bangalore being older than what we think or told it is. This is one of the many places where inscription stones were found in the city giving us a glimpse of the place and people from the past. Kittayya who is listed here now is the oldest know citizen of Bangalore. And this beautiful ganga style mandapa is the first of it's kind anywhere in the city.
A small structure built to house 3 hero stones. Hero stones are flat stones with carvings depicting the heroism of someone who belonged to that place. They also have inscriptions detailing the achievements. Here 3 stones were found. One stone has been eroded completely, the second with some inscriptions is chipping off and the third has a pictorial depiction with some inscriptions; which is still in good shape.
A beautiful 8th century style Ganga mantapa was created to house the inscription stones found here. The inscription stones talk about the a man Kittayya who lost his life in a fight against the Rastrakutas. The inscription stone is dated to 790 AD and is in old Kannada. It is one of the oldest stones to mention the word Benguluru.
Kittayya, first known Namma bengaluru citizen. Saved under Ganga dynasty style mantapa. Only missing thing is description of inscription in today's language for common people is missing.
It's a stone inscription dating back to about AD 750. It's been rescued and placed in Mantapa to celebrate the glorious past of Hebbal, Bengaluru and, Kannada.
The story behind this mantapa is nothing short of miracle. Hats off to Mr. Uday Kumar and his entire team for the incredible perseverence and for giving our city a heritage monument.
Great Job. There is a immediate need to conserve similar Monuments within BANGALORE district. Kudos to sanath Kumar and Team.
A place which every Bangalorean should visit and relish the history of the wonderful city Banglore
