According to myth, valley region of Nambikulam hill was the top rice producing area in Malabar but once a farmer due to greed and impatience, harvested rice grain before they ripened and this made the goddess of rice cultivation angry and she left Nambikulam and went to other side of the hill i.e Wayanad. Myth also says that, that's how Wayanad or the Wayal Nadu( paddy field country) become prosperous in rice cultivation. Nambikulam is also said to have an ancient pond which never used to get dry.
Earlier, there was a police wireless station and outpost here but due to lightning hazards the outpost was removed. There is a Kurisadi on the top. Peruvannamuzhi reservoir, Kakkayam hills, Kinaloor- Kootalida- town, etc. can be seen from the hill top.
