The Hathni Kund is a concrete barrage located on the Yamuna River in Yamuna Nagar district of Haryana state, India. It was constructed between October 1996 and June 1999 for the purpose of irrigation. It replaced the Tajewala Barrage 3 km (2 mi) downstream which was constructed in 1873 and is now out of service. The barrage diverts water into the Western and Eastern Yamuna Canals. The small reservoir created by the barrage also serves as a wetland for 31 species of waterbird. Plans to replace the Tajewala Barrage had been in the works since the early 1970s but an agreement between the governments of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh (which share the water it diverts) was not made until July 1994.[2] Although the barrage was completed in late 1999, it was not operational until March 2002 because of work delays.[3] The barrage is 360 m (1,181 ft) long and its spillway is composed of ten main floodgates along with five undersluices on its right side and three on its left. The maximum discharge of the barrage is 28,200 m3/s (995,874 cu ft/s) (1 in 500 year flood).
It is a very nice place nature has decorated very well. It is really awesome to see the green mountains behind the river
Visited the place it is only a barrage not a dam electricity is not produced here constructed on yamuna river to divert the water of yamuna river into two parts Eastern yamuna canal which flows to uttar pardesh and western yamuna canal which flows to dehli, haryana
There is so much opportunity for making and advertising this place as local tourism centre. Many people can get small business opportunity with the help of local tourism here. Some local vendors of sugarcane juice, chat, camel ride and some fast also available here. This is a good view point in morning time and situated near kaleshar wild life sanctuary. Even 200 meter far from Delhi-yamunanagar-Nahan road. I have attached 10 pictures of Hathni kund barrage for better understanding of the area and view.

Hathni Kund is a location of origin of Western Yamuna Canal in the Indian state of Haryana, built on a raised plinth overlooking the Yamuna River. The river flows into the plains of Haryana after crossing over the last lap of the Himalayan foothills at Paonta Sahib. The waters of the western Yamuna Canal were collected in the Tajewala Barrage, 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from Hathni Kund, but this function is now provided by the newer Hathni Kund Barrage.
If you are going to dehradun/mussurie from Delhi then spare 10-15 minutes here for quick photo session. The place is clean and is perfect for selfies and group pictures. You usually find around 20 people here so not much crowd for disturbance.
