Awesome place. I am a history geek so seeing the inscriptions of the first ever kannada language gave me goosebumps
Kannada's 2nd oldest known inscription from 5th century (450 CE)! Foind in Halmidi village (HanumiDi village). The original inscription is shifted to Bengaluru's Vishweswaraiah museum, so there's a replica installed in Hanumidi.
A very small place. People who love history should visit. It's located in a very traditional and old village.
Even though it's difficult to find, place is well maintained.
Well maintained
More time to take our government establishing the place what we need to the future
The Halmidi inscription is the oldest known Kannada language inscription in the Kannada script. While estimates vary slightly, the inscription is often dated to between 450 CE - 500 CE. The inscription was discovered in 1936 by Dr. M. H. Krishna, the Director of Archaeology of the (princely) State of Mysore (present-day Karnataka region of India), in Halmidi, a village in the Hassan district. The original inscription is kept in the Office of the Director of Archaeology and Museums, Govt. of Karnataka, Mysore, and a fibreglass replica has been installed in Halmidi.
One of the historic place in karnataka. Very sad to see atmosphere.. there is no development made.
