HALESHWAR STHAN - Hindu temple in Sitamarhi - Sitamarhi, India

A very famous Mahadev Temple in Girmishani village... It is said that Raja Janak started Haleshti Yagya from this place only and afterwards he found Goddess Sita from Punaura while ploughing the farms... I I sowed this last year in the month of Sawan, it is very nice, a lot of attention is paid to cleanliness, it is a request to the people that you will also maintain cleanliness. #Bihartourism, #Bihar, SITAMARHI

The place and the temple are so much significant in the Indian history and Ramayana, but the conveyance here is not that good. One has to take a auto-rickshaw from Sitamarhi city, and you would't get frequent modes of transport. As I experienced, I had to wait for a much longer time to get an auto-rickshaw back to the city. In the temple, you will notice that the beautiful Shiv-Ling has a mark of the plough which was struck by Maharaj Janak as per Ramayana. Of course, the temple is very much beautiful. But the tourism department should focus on these places also.

This is 3 Kms. noth-west of Sitamarhi. As the myth goes, the king Videha had founded a temple of Lord shiva on the occasion of Putra Yeshti Yajna. His temple was named as Haleshwarnath temple. This place is believed to be very ancient as the tale goes that Mithila king Janaka who was the father Sita from Ramayana built this Shiva temple. The stone Shivling at the sanctum is belived to be the original image through which the king invoked Lord Shiva. The present temple is a recently built structure with a large ground around it for future development. There is provisions for the devotees accommodation inside the temple complex as lot of people visit this sacred place from far and wide. The devotees pour water carried from the river Bagmati or the Punoradham tank. A straight road connects the Punoradham temple with this temple.

This place is beleived to be the site of the "Haleshti Yagya" conducted by King Janak to pray for rains in his drought ravaged kingdom. The king began to plough the land from here onwards after the yagya and then found Maa Jagdamba Sita at Punaura, when the till hit a pot buried by Mandodari. Thus leading to prakatya of Maa Janaki.

This temple is 8km away from city .situated in very remote area.

Highly divine and pious place of baba MAHADEV In Sitamarhi. Important from Ancient reference..... because this is the place from where raja Janak started ploughing for rain and as a result goddess maa sita took birth.
