Gulkand Hostels - Resort hotel in Puducherry - Villupuram, India

We stayed in the property a few weeks back, This property is straight opposite to the serenity beach. May be good for the budget stay. The good looking images posted by the guest are very old (2019), Now the property is completely different, So request you to not have much expectations on the cleanliness and the food. Have some better options in the same location.

It was amazing place. Two storey house. The upper part of the house was the best. With the view from the balcony. A little maintenance is required. The place is fishing area so there is lot of smell from the stalls. (Might be uncomfortable for vegetarians). Nearby no good restaurants. But swiggy is available so no issues.

I am writing this review based on my conversation with the host and the irresponsible behaviour portrayed by him. I actually didn't visit the place as rueben didn't allow me to. I wanted to book it for new year's 2021. Initially when I spoke to him about tariffs and date he was very polite and gave me good suggestions on which room to pick. He said he will confirm after a day and send me pictures. However after several reminders I wasn't able to get a confirmation or the pictures. He started narrating me all his problems of renovation and guests reaching early. I co-operated happily and told him whenever it is convenient , give me a confirmation. After 3-4 days i pinged him again only to hear that we have increased the prices. I was ready to take the property even at the increased price. So Rueben found another stupid reason and told me our property isn't available at Airbnb now. It shows booked... Try your luck if it's available u can book it. Also Rueben, if u read this do understand that if people will give good reviews then they will also point out what is bad. Do not get offended and reply to every bad review saying that its come from same gang of friends, or the guest miscommunicated etc etc. Be more responsible in what u do, coz somebody's reaching out to you for help.. As I said Rueben Stop defending yourself on negative reviews. Right u are very polite on calls but actions do speak.. instead of all this drama for a week you could have simply told me tht day " ma'am plz check Airbnb and book as per ur availability.. post that I am happy to help".. don't just try to be polite and hang us for 4-5 days saying I will get back. This is really funny.. dear host i guess you have misunderstood me as someone else. I wanted to visit your so called homestay with my family and my pet. Not my fiance and private affairs n bla bla. Also I didn't have any conference call with you. Can't believe you can make up stories on someone's relationship. Goodness!! Such a crazy person you are!

Location: 5/5 ( perfect beach facing property) Property (photos Vs actual) : 1/5 Very disappointed, had high hopes based on the photos available on Air BNB site. Nothing matched with photographs. The moment we entered the house, we got disappointed . The top floor which could be the best portion of the property, was not opened to use but it's photographs were there on Air BNB site and that was one of the reason we booked it. Everything here which was not cleaned and not in usable condition, owner's simple statement was that it's not posted on Air BNB. Owner : 1/5 Owner threatened us to leave his property when we asked him about the cleanliness of property and the differences b/w photos on Air BNB and actual, he was very much in the need of 5 starts only. And we couldn't leave the property since we had plans. Owner keeps different standard while speaking face to face and while chat over what whatsapp. That may be to have some proof in case of somebody complains on Air BNB. Cleanliness: 1/5 The place was not cleaned as we expected, I have been to same area 1 year ago but at different Property and that was very clean. Here, Kitchen was very unhygienic, lizard was there inside fridge. Ground floor was not usable at all. Hope, owner will take this feedback in a positive way and maintain it upto the expectations. And pls put the latest photographs of the property. I request all who are reading this, don't have high hopes with property. And if now is has changed, you post the new photographs, I will be happy to take down this review. I don't recommend this property to anybody.

Ruben's home is just like home away from home. Rustic place, that we fell in love with as soon as we entered. This place has a great sea view and stone throw away from the shore. The rock path to the sea is right next to the house and we enjoyed spending our early morning here. Ruben is a very friendly host and was very helpful by suggesting us great places to visit and eat. Loved the experience!

Very nice and neat property on serenity beach.. Most of the reviews talked about electricity fluctuations but we didn't face any power problem. We enjoyed a relaxed holiday at the house and beach. Mornings were beautiful on the rocks. Ruben had a very nice playlist that we kept playing throughout the stay. We had a good books collection to ourselves. Enjoyed Pondi!!! :)

The worst place for staying in Pondicherry. Slum dwellers would put this property to shame. The host is rude, hostile and highly incompetent. Check in was at 12 pm, we had informed him that we'll be coming at 6 am to drop our bags and come back in the evening. Yet, till 7 pm the rooms were not ready and far from being cleaned. The bathroom is covered on the top with tarpaulin sheet and had no hot water. The way to the room was an unsafe ladder. We had no intentions of staying and he said he would refund it. We told him we need it right away in order to pay somewhere else. He immediately got angry and started saying - 'You're talking to a wall.' He said he is not sure if we'll get back the refund. We haven't received it. Highly disappointed.

We went there on the 20th of Aug. The place had electrical issues and was unlivable. The caretaker said that we are free to check out later that night and that he will give us a full refund. But it has been two months and he still has not given us the refund. He keeps blaming the landlord and the landlord abuses him when you call to complain about him. The caretaker had the audacity to say that although he promised to give the refund, he said he won't no matter what we do. If you are planning to pay an advance, in case of any issues please don't expect it back even if he promises to give it to you. He is very sketchy and this will be rather evident the first time you talk to him.
