Grishneswar Jyotirlinga Temple - Featured Reviews (8266)
Lots of business, feels less of bhakti, difficult to get in and have darshan. Some people get in through internal links. No way to come out of line once gotten in. No way to see the ancient temple and enjoy architecture. Do not carry your baggage, phones, gadgets, camera , they do not allow inside and have to be kept at nearby shops for lockers , instead leave at your place or vehicle securely.
Architecture of the temple is good, built of red stone. Good thing about this temple is we can go inside of shrine and touch Shivaling and performance pooja unlike other temples where we get to get the idol for micro seconds.
Grushneshwar Jyotirlinga Mandir or Grushneshwar is a Jyotirlinga mandir of God Shiv Shankar in Verul village of Sambajinagar district, Maharashtra. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga mandir in the world. The mandir is a national protected site, one and half kilo meters away from UNESCO World Heritage Site the Ellora Caves, 30 kilometres (19 miles) far north-west of the city Sambhaji Nagar, and 300 kilometres (190 miles) east-northeast far from Mumbai. Grushneshwar is one of the key mandir of Hindu religion, it have mentions in Shivapuran, Skandpuran, Ramayan and Mahabharata The temple structure was destroyed by the Delhi Sultanate in 13th and 14th-century. The temple went through several rounds of rebuilding followed by re-destruction during the Mughal-Maratha conflict. It was rebuilt in the current form in the 18th century under the sponsorship of queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, after the fall of the Mughal Empire.] It is presently an important and active pilgrimage site of the Hindus and attracts long lines of devotees daily. Anyone can enter the temple premises and its inner chambers, but to enter the sanctum sanctorum core (garbha-gruha) of the temple, the local Hindu tradition demands that men must go bare-chested. The temple was re-constructed by Maloji Bhosale of Verul, (grandfather of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj) in the 16th century and later again by queen Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century. She is credited with rebuilding some of major Hindu temples such as the Kashi Vishvanath temple in Varanasi, a Vishnu temple in Gaya, and a much larger Shiva Jyotirlinga temple in Somnath Temple.
The 12 th jyotirling of Mahadev . Here u can touch shivling inside shrine. But some rules are there let me share- 1.all men compulsory to remove clothes above waist then only can enter in shrine. 2. Pls avoid visiting at evening 7.30 to 8.30 pm as it's aarti time and u can't get inside shrine to touch shivling during aarti time. 3. Mobiles are not allowed in temple, lockers are available at entrance to keep safely at 10 rs charge . 4. Go in early morning .Darshan starts from morning 5 am . Less crowd in early morning. 5. You can ask pujari for water to jalabhishek the Shivji (free of cost) 6. You can visit bhadra maruti temple near only.
One of the 12th Jyotirlinga. Just avoid going on the weekend and try to visit on regular days. Don't bring mobile or any luggage. All the men will have to remove the shirt before entering the temple but the good thing is that you will be able to touch the shiv linga at this jyotirlinga.

The most devine place I experienced in my life. Honestly, I was experiencing a divine light in my heart for almost three days. I heared that, a jyotirling touches you at your AAGYAA CHAKRAA if you have a devotion at your heart and, veryfirst time I experienced it at my personal level. My temple experience was amazing. I was there for two complete days and performed Rudrabhishek also. Honestly I can say this is one among a few places where you may not feel cheated at any level. They allow bhakts to go directly in the garbh-grih to touch the jyotirlinga and perform pooja. For interested devotees, Rudrabhishek pooja is also available which is performed by 11 ved-paathi brahmans for almost an hour. Which gives a total divine experience if you are a true devotee. The crowd is limited and you do not need to wait in a lond queue. Anyone can expect to finish his pooja maximum within 30 mins. Brahmins are so honest and gentlemen that I felt worthy to touch their feet and also to take their blessings. They do not demand any money at any level. You can stay within the premises and in temple as per your wish. Outside the temple, flower vendors and mobile lockers are available because leather things like belt, wallet, and mobile phones are not allowed. These vendors charge just 5 Rs to keep these all things safely. One more tradition, that a male person needs to remove his upper body clothes while darshan. Ladies are not bounded with any such rules and this is because of following the old tradition. In Ghrishneshwar only any one may find an economic home stay within the range of Rs. 600/- to 1200/-. Sambhajinagar is the nearest famous city to this place. Along with darshan of Jyotirling, you can also take the darshan of "BHADRA MARUTI" in Khultabaad and world famous heritage site ELLORA. In Ellora, Kailash Temple is made with single stone which is worth watching. At the last, I would suggest everyone to visit this Jyotirling at least once in life time. Specially who are having LEO as their jodiac sign. Jai Shree Ram Har-Har Mahadev
One of the 12 Jyotirling but not at all maintained to attract more tourism. Official should visit other states jyotirling and plan for maintaining cleanliness and relocation of shops. Historical places in surrounding like samadhi of late great grand father of Shivaji Maharaj is rotten and not at all taken care. A gift by our ancestors is not at all maintained how it is supposed to be. Very saddened and disappointed by the Maharashtra government in this. It breaks our hearts.
Beautiful cave with Lord Buddha statue in the centre. Main hall is relatively dark. Lot of carvings on the sides and roof. There are rooms carved out on upper floors too. Per local guides, main hall has a balcony with window strategically built such
the Dashavatara Cave, also known as Cave 15, marks a late phase of cave architecture in Ellora. It is the only cave in the complex which bears an inscription both dating it and linking it to royal patronage, specifically that of the Rashtrakutas. Sch
Rajmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar can be said as tapasvini as she not only re constructed the destroyed temples by Mughals but also protected from them. She also built many architectural master pice of monuments/temples. This is one of its kind . Take a
The owner runs the place. Extremely helpful and polite. Always on call and ready to serve at a drop of a hat. Location: close enough to reach Ellora caves quick and just off the main road to cut off the extra public noise which is great for a good ni
