350 year old temple. Chiplun's pride & holy place. This place is in heart of city ,still good space for parking. A 100 +year old library (lokmaany ttilk vaacn mNdir) is also in vicinity. Nice place to be here in evening!

Is this mandir has bhari bhavani sitting of horse and also is this mandir kuldevat of Ghag family??? Please help me with this question.

Very peaceful temple of Lord KALBHAIRAV Chiplun was believed to have the first home of the Konkanasth or Chitpavan Brahmans. According to local folklore, After claiming Konkan region from aggressive sea, people were supplied with sixty ponds and sixty gardens by Parashuram. Chiplun was initially ruled by the Satavahanas, Shakas, Kshatrapas, Kalachuris and Rashtrakutas. Later it was invaded by the Kadambas & Traikutas followed by the Delhi Sultanate, Marathas and Peshwas majorly. In the seventeenth century it was a great village, very populous and plentifully stored with all provisions. The nearby Gowalkot was the trade center being the major harbour over Vashishthi River. The Paag area in town wasnamed so because it was mainly used for war horse stables. The central area in Chiplun, called Markandi is believed to have taken name from the Yadnya performed there by Maharshi Markandeya.

Renovation of the temple started 3 years back, still going on, the work going on is beautiful, new temple will sure be excellent

20mins walking distance from Chiplun railway Station. Besides the name Kal Bhairav Mandir it is also the temple on Bhairi Bhawani Aai Mandir.
