Government Museum Madikeri - Featured Reviews (2223)
The museum is located within the madkeri fort area. It's a 10 rupee entry per adult. It's worth a visit if one is interested in antiques. The place has old coins, war weaponries, swords etc. You could spend anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes here . Do have a look at the artifacts in their gardens as well .
Due to restrictions imposed by the Arcological Survey of India, Madikeri Fort and Museum look sleepy most of the time. But on 28th November 2023, it was beaming with life. In Kodagu district harvesting festival called Huttari was celebrated on the previous day. 28th was the day for cultural events. Omkareshwara Temple Committee, Pandira Family, and Madikeri Kodava Samaja arranged traditional flok dances of the area called Koolat, Bolkat, Ummathat and Pareyakali. For visitors my suggestion is to mark the next day of Puttari next year to visit this place.
It's a very old church repurposed into a museum. It has some very old artefacts and the vibe is very relaxed. Entry fee is 10 rupees and no restrictions on photography.
The entire property is not maintained we'll only have a few things in the museum building displayed. It's an old church and the fort is not maintained as it is a huge area from the past.
An old Anglican church converted to state museum, this is located in the Madikeri Fort campus itself. Entry fees are Rs.10 per adult, no restrictions on photography. Consists of historical artifacts ranging from sculptures, weapons, coins, clothing, masks, paintings, etc. from around the 16th century. Though not huge in size, you can find lots of sculptures just outside the museum in the lawn around it. They are very strict about their timings so please check it on GMaps before coming, or else you'd be denied entry. If they develop it properly, this would be an amazing attraction in Coorg.
The museum is inside an old Christian church and is very old and is of historic importance and managed by archeology department. It needs lot of improvement and upkeeping. Even proper directon the place is missing and Google maps could lead you wrong ways. Museum is worth visiting and informative. Fort need to be maintained well and garden to be preserved.
It is a small, beautiful old church and worth it for people who are interested in history, old coins and statues. However it will take only 5 to 8 minutes to complete the visit, but I didn't recommend it to the people who are not interested in history.
Now this is in the heart of the city. An Anglican Church turned into a museum. There is a ticket counter outside 10&20Rs respectively. There are plenty things kept inside the museum ranging from 16th to 20th century but most of the history or facts are not mentioned. Someone who already has knowledge will understand better. Too cluttered with things and place is small. The glass painting is really beautiful.
